OK. I've got another good one....
About 12 years ago, my husband, me and our good friend, Laura were bumming around Europe. On this particular leg of the journey, we were catching a train from London to Edinbugh. We had developed a routine of me & the hubby holding all the bags, while Laura ran ahead onto the train to secure the "good" seats. We always tried to get the seats that faced each other with a table in the middle so that we could play drinking games etc. during the trip. When we arrived at the seats, Laura informed me that a really cute guy had asked to sit in one of our four seats, but that she had told him "no" (as I had instructed her to do).
I asked "what guy?" And she pointed to this guy in his late 20's sitting a few seats away. (He was really cute) So, we told him that he was welcome to sit with us afterall. He joined our group and we learned that he was American also. We asked him the normal questions like "what do you do?" and "why are you traveling around Europe?" etc. And he told us that he was an actor and that he did a lot of independent films and that he had just been in London for the British opening of "Legends of the Fall".
Now, none of us had seen the movie yet and we didn't have a clue who this guy was. So we asked him what part he had played and he told us that it was just a bit part and that he died early in the movie. So then we started making jokes about him playing the part of a fence post and that he probably wouldn't be credited etc. Believing that this guy was some struggling, bit-part extra type actor, we wouldn't let him buy any beers and I actually gave him my phone card (in case he needed it to call home). He told us he was originally from Texas (I believe it was Santa Fe, but I might be mistaken).
Anyway, we spent the next few hours playing drinking games, exchanging phone numbers, taking photos etc. His name was Henry. We got off at Edinburgh. He was headed on up to the Isle of Skye. We didn't think anymore about it until we got home from Europe several weeks later....
We were showing all of our trip photos to my sister-in-law and she stopped on one of the photos of us and Henry. She asked us if we knew who he was. And we said it was a nice guy we met on the train. His name was Henry Thomas. She went on to inform us that he was Elliot from E.T. and we later learned that his "bit part" in Legends wasn't really as small as he had told us.
