it might be that the weather has been a bit gloomy in the Midwest. Maybe when all the snow has melted, flowers are popping and it warms up, she'll be back!! When it's messy and grey out, it can be depressing.

She does love that snow!
If she's not back once it warms up, we'd better send our

Thanks you two - have missed you all. For those of you that don't know (and that's most of you cause I've been pretty secretive about it) my mom was in home hospice for over 6 months. When we first brought her home, we thought she had just a few weeks, but she stabilized and rallied. It was an unusual situation for hospice - she was diabetic, near kidney failure and suffered 2 heart attacks and a stroke back in late August - they recommended angioplasty, but it would have completely destroyed her kidney function. She didn't want to spend her time left on dialysis, so she opted for hospice. Her quality of life the last several months was not great, but offered many simple pleasures - like eating whatever she wanted which was not an option when having to manage her diabetes. She also got to spend a final Christmas with many of her grandchildren. A few days before she passed away in late February, she fell out of bed and appeared to have had another stroke. She deteriorated rapidly after this, but was still somewhat lucid; my dad, sister and I got to tell her we loved her and say goodbye. It was pretty much the way she wanted things to go, and we were all grateful for that. And we take great solace in knowing that she is in a better place, in heaven, and with my brother (her first born) who passed away 4 years ago. Of course we miss her and grieve for ourselves, but for her it was truly a blessing.

So that is why I have been MIA for quite some time. I am happy to be back and getting my feet wet. I will continue to work on our dear friend Audie and see if I can persuade her to join me here. And OL, I am all for a "midwest-gent." I think Indy is probably the most central location, although, we may just have to plan a surprise event at Audie's house (the surprise, of course, being on her!)
