I just learned yesterday from my Georgia friend that Cairo, Ga. is pronounced like "Karo" syrup, and not like Cairo, Egypt. Of course, I do know how to pronounce Mexia, Tx.

Don't feel bad. By the way, you do know that they make Karo Syrup in Cairo (or used to), Ga. (their high school football team was known as the syrup makers).

MEMO to Martha Stewart: The home of the fabulous south Georgia sweet Vidalia onion is pronounced VYE DAIL YA, not VEE DOLL YA.

Also, LaFayette (apologies to NOLA) is pronounced Luh FAY et.

Not to mention, (apologies to Texas) Houston County is pronounced
House-ton.

And, last but not least. I have great friends from Vienna, Ga. Prounounced: VYE ENNA (like the sausage), not VEE ENNA (like the lovely city in Italy).

But enough Ga. trivia.

Here's mine-

Until I turned 30 I genuinely thought it was (and said so often) a "mute point"...

'

Someone finally corrected me and I was very humbled and grateful...

:dunno: Sad but true...

He is also honored in Fayette County, where they left off the La altogether.

And don't forget the ever-popular Ponce-duh-LEEon avenue in downtown At-lan-ter.

That's OK. Mrs. Singinchicken often "takes things for granite" and when frustrated will often "give up the goat"! :rotfl:

Speaking of Georgia-isms, every time my corny family goes to Stone Mountain, we ALWAYS take everything for granite.
