We shouldn't emulate anyone. America at her best is the envy of the world, and rightfully so. It's just lately she seems like the former honor student who suddenly developed a crack problem. Nothing that a little rehab can't fix. She just needs a little intervention (maybe in November?) to get her back on track. :D

Sounds good, until you look at statistics of world populations. Statistically, it is shown that within twenty years, India and China, each, will have more honor students than the USA will have people. Those numbers are very scary if you care about the health and wealth of the USA as a Country.

I no longer stay in Dune Allen
I just talked to my mom - she was at the mall walking with all the mall walkers (most are senior citizens).

Anyway, she said they are all shaking their heads over VP choice of Palin- these older people just don't get why McCain picked her. This is the first time I have ever heard my mother question anything Republican- as many years as she has walked in a voting booth and just pulled the Republican lever, she's having a heard time getting on board with this one.
I was walking from Barnes and Noble to somewhere that was not a nail place yesterday and overheard an older gentleman on his cell phone expressing similar sentiments in the fifteen seconds I dawdled to eavesdrop. I should add he said "some governor of Alaska" nothing gender based in the snippet, just confusion over "Who?"

Very interesting. I haven't thought about these ladies, who grew up in a world where men were expected to do everything with regard to authority and power. I wonder if that mindset has led this group of ladies to not believe a woman should be in power. :dunno:

No, my mom feels sorry for the Palin kids being dragged through a scrutinizing that is part of any election process- it's hard enough for kids without any baggage. She also noticed the abstinence teaching that didn't work part. I also imagine Sarah Palin was someone none of these people had ever heard of- they are not following political blogs.

Okay, even if the Republicans have chosen a sacraficial lamb in Palin, aren't we learning a lot?

we need to emulate our former selves. and surely, no one else wants to emulate us currently.

I need more info...tell me what our former selves looked like. I am blinded by the present.

With all of the very nice things being said about candidates, I have no idea why we cannot get great candidates to run for office.

I've seen those stats, too. But I'm not sure I get your point. Not much we can do to outpace India and China in population.

This sums it up:

My point goes back to your post above. A little rehab won't help us take on nations which have more smart people than our entire population. That is scary. Sure, it would help us to set more positive examples in the world, but if we individuals don't get off our keesters, we will quickly begin to suffer economically as a Country, and we all know that the economy is what keeps the Gov't grinding.
