Response from that political fact-checker site, which so many people find to be a great source, thinks otherwise about McCain being a flipper on this issue.

True but search further. He has never waivered on being "against" torture in his speeches so the flip o meter won't show what swgb may be remembering...

McCain voted yes on the Military Commission Act of October 2006 (S 3930) that allowed waterboarding and other forms of "enhanced interrogation". Worse it authorized the President to define Geneva Conventions violations as he, and he alone sees fit. McCain gave Bush complete authority to be the "decider" regarding the torture level. Scary since we know W wasn't always making good decisions.

I recall that many in the Senate wanted an amendment added that specifically outlawed certain unusually cruel torture, including waterboarding. McCain didn't support that added ammendment. It was rejected and put through in its original form. All votes are public record.

I'd give that statement a partial truth rating on the meter. McCain, alone, doesn't have the authority to give that authority. The Senate has that authority, just as the Senate had that authority to give the President so much unbridled power after 9-11.

I'm not surprised to see that S 3930 is split almost down the aisle, as is most every Bill. It is a sign of today's politics.

True enough. My point is McCain didn't fight to add the amendment outlawing those specifically cruel tortures. I was surprised at that time considering his own torture that he didn't fight harder to prevent those specific things. He spoke out against it at other times, yet voted to allow it. That being said I'm not attacking McCain, just pointing out the flip o meter might not show everything.

I don't have the words to say how much I admire what he endured as a POW. If you want to get any info from me, waterboarding would be the way. I can't endure an afternoon at the dentist without telling all my secrets. I hang on to the little magic sucking straw for dear life.

Egg-zachery.

 I know. It's not possible to be all inclusive, but it's a nice start. I'd still rather use the non partison fact checking internet sites than rely on biased media, sound bites or just the candidates word.

Well, there will be a bit more time to sort this all out between McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden for those wanting to vote early by absentee ballot. The absentee ballots may be coming out later than expected in Walton County. October 9 is now one date mentioned. Need to confirm, but word is one or two of the amendments were dropped and this could cause printing delay. This delay would probably affect each county. This date could put a squeeze on getting them out and back in.
