Clearbranch, Miss
I don't think she has a "slug's chance in the Seattle sunshine" of winning this debate--but I did hear that she's a shoo-in to ace the Swimsuit Competition.

I didn't watch the Obama/McCain debate (nor did I TiVo it)--but I did clear my calendar for this one. I'd give a million bucks to see Biden scream at the beginning of the debate, "Live! From New York...it's Saturday Night!!" :D
I'd looove to see that too!!! And i'm a republican! (sorta)

Palin sure as heck beat the hockey pants off incumbent Alaska Governor Frank Murkowski. He was also longtime United States Senator from Alaska before he was Governor of Alaska. She's debated a United States Senator before. This won't be new.

I think Murkowski may have greased Palin's skids on her run for Governor:

Murkowski was elected governor on November 5, 2002, defeating his Democratic opponent, Fran Ulmer, 56%-41%. He succeeded retiring Democrat Tony Knowles and took office on December 2, 2002.

Upon his inauguration, he resigned his Senate seat and appointed his daughter, Lisa Murkowski, the Majority Leader-designate of the Alaska House of Representatives, in his place. This led his opponents to accuse him of nepotism; as a result, a ballot measure passed in 2004 stripped governors of the power to appoint U.S. Senators, making Alaska one of only three states to do so.

Toward the end of his administration he brokered a deal for a gas pipeline that was never considered, in final form, by the legislature. Murkowski threatened to sign the deal without legislative approval, but the legislature successfully brought a lawsuit to enjoin him from doing so.

Governor Murkowski ran for re-election in 2006, but came in third behind former Wasilla mayor, now Governor, Sarah Palin and Fairbanks businessman John Binkley in the Republican primary election on August 22, 2006 (Palin winning with 51% and Binkley taking second with 30% to Murkowski's 19%).[2] Most polls had predicted this result.[citation needed]

On March 4, 2008, Murkowski's former chief-of-staff, Jim Clark, pleaded guilty to one felony count of conspiracy after federal investigators discovered Clark had asked oil-field company Veco to illegally pay $68,550 on polls for Murkowski's failed 2006 re-election campaign. Murkowski, Clark's indictment noted, was the only candidate who supported an oil tax and gas pipeline plan that Veco backed. Murkowski has not been charged in the Alaska political corruption probe.

Can we all agree this woman's political obituary has already been penned by those who know most? If she does not have a complete meltdown she just might be perceived as 'the winner'. In my best Darth Vader voice "don't underestimate the power of a coherent hockey mom".

I wouldn't underestimate her. She gives a great speech. She is likable, and she has charisma. On the video I saw of her in previous debates, she held her own, so who knows.

I feel she'll have some good one liners and zingers to make her points. The uneducated voter may like that and feel she's "winning". Beyond that If she can keep her answers short and they don't follow up or push for details she may do better than everyone thinks. I think alot depends on Gwen and how hard she pushes for details. In the past, that is when Palin got lost in her talking points. I agree Biden needs to say less and let her talk more to show her weakness.

I believe her loss at the debate and removal from the campaign will be the third rabbit that the empire tries to pull out of the hat.

The proverbial October Surprise?

All I know is, after September and all it's "surprises", I will not be surprised by anything.

In my simple little mind, while watching this sporting event of an election, if I were Obama/Biden's coach, I would tell them to make as few mistakes as possible...stay on your course. Let your opponet continue to fumble.

You really think they would replace her? I hear Tina Fay does a dead-on Romney.

I would be curious to what some of the Repubs on the board think that are involved with the party, but IMO, he can't win with her after the bailout bill vote going against him. He needs a new lift.

So in true Maverick fashion, it's his only play. The question will be how ugly will she make it, or would she go quietly into that good night.

That all being said, the October surprise could be that she does well against Biden and the polls start to switch.

Which of these two do you think is more realistic?
