Time to rant.
When we moved in our house 9 years ago, we bought a home warranty for a year. When there was literally TWO days left on the warranty, the very old oven went out. They gladly replaced the oven/microwave built-in combo. (Remember this--they are hard to find.)
Fast forward to last weekend. I punched the little button to self-clean and went about my business. A couple of hours lately, the "door locked" light is flashing. No heat. No locked door. Tried jiggling the door lock. Nothing. Tried clearing. Nothing. Still flashing. Cussed a lot. Nothing. Unplugged. Nothing. Still flashing. Cussed some more. Better words this time. Nothing. Can't clear, can't bake. Lots of cussing.
Called repair guy. He comes out. Looks, takes a check for 60.00, leaves. Calls back and says it's the "board" and that'll be $498.50. :yikes:Big time cussing....me to the guy. Silence. Then he says that's his best offer. More cussing. He hangs up.
I tell Mr. DD. Big ole cuss words...repeated..many times.
When he comes home, he tells me this has happened to his boss twice. Boss says they make the boards to go out when you use the "self-clean" mode.
Me....more cussing.
I look online at new oven/micro combos. Hard to find. Cheapest one is about $1500.00. :yikes: Now, I haven't bought an oven or stove in years, but sonofab!tch!!
Looks like I'll be calling the repair guy back and eating my cuss words.
Then, I'll go buy Easy-off.
:bang::bang::bang:

Forgive me DD but the one thing that sticks out in your rant is the "can't bake" line. You bake???????????????????

(If that's not just a figure of speech you are welcome in Indianapolis any time you like. I'm hopin' and hopin' you were being literal not figural.... :clap: )

sounds like you'll be eating some crow....;-) Freshly baked in a 500$ repaired oven as opposed to a 1,500.00$ new oven....
Elbow grease...plus I never felt that having an oven on at 500 degrees for 4 hours was a very good thing:eek:

:rotfl:Why, yes, Mermy, I do bake from time to time. In fact, I was scheduled to bake a pumpkin cheesecake tonight for a meeting tomorrow. But alas, I had to opt for lemonade pie and rocky road fudge.
I'd love to come to Indy and bake for you!!

Aw, DD, look on the bright side of this. Think of all the points you're saving. :blush: I have a Thermador gas convection oven and the temperature won't show. You have to hit "convect" and that sets it at 350 degrees, then press the button again and again for five degree increments. I figure counting 350 355, 60, 65, 70...is a lot cheaper than getting it fixed especially after reading your post.

Allifunn, sometimes ovens that have the self-cleaning mode expressly say not to use Easy-Off. That's maddening because it makes me uneasy, too, to set the oven at such a ridiculously hot temperature for hours on end. I don't trust it. I prefer elbow grease but I've always been afraid of having what happened to DD's oven happen to mine. I deal with it by neven cleaning my oven. :lol: (Though I could move up a level to BB's expertise and never turn it on. lol )

Well, Mermy, Mr. DD's boss DID say they build 'em to break. So, my guess is, eventually they'll all break down...and we'll all be cussing. One thing's for sure, I won't be using the self-clean mode again. It'll be easy off for me from now on. That's what I originally intended to rant about. They don't build things to last any more. Just to be replaced a few short years later. Dammit. :bang:
