Looking for new local dentist

Hey...I need some help. I was going to Dr. Crosson on 30-A for many years, and he is no longer in practice. I went to his replacement, Dr. Tanya Orr, last week and had a teeth cleaning (no x-rays, just cleaning). Turns out that Dr. Orr doesn't even see you except every other visit, so only the assistant does the job. I was charged $106 for this cleaning which I think is outrageous! I'd like to find a new local dentist for next time as I hate to think what the charge would be for cleaning, x-rays and Dr. Orr seeing me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm going to Dr. Ruder tomorrow and sure hope the price is right, cause I think it is serious. I've had him recommended by a few people. We'll see.

Please let us know. Dentists wonder why people don't visit the dentist more often, but the cost is prohibitive for most people, and it's rarely covered by insurance these days.

I don't like to talk mean about people but all I have to say about this recommendation is NO! My family went to him. He said my son had no cavities, he had alot of pain shortly after,we took him to another dentist that said he had 5 cavities that needed fixing. Same story with myself.
I never called to confront him on the situation though. My bad.

I dunno, she's done a pretty good job of seeing all three of us thus far!

All of my co-workers are going to Dr Ruder now. I am hearing that his philosophy is like Dr. Crosson's was - make a note of it, but don't freak out the patient with a list unless there is so much wrong they REALLY need a treatment plan.

Went to see Dr. Ruder last Thursday. It's been just a teeth cleaning the last 3 visits, but, they took exrays this time, because of some concerns they saw. Well, Ruder came in, checked a few teeth, and when I asked him if something was wrong, he asked me, if there was a problem.

Then I realized, this was the 1st time I'd seen him in 18 months. I'm having concerns, after this and reading the posts above.

I had a GREAT dentis for 30yrs, back in cheeseland. It's the old saying, you don't know what you've got, until it's gone.

Had many billing problems with dr. Ruders office. Go to dr. O'donnel now on mack bayou rd. Near hospital. Great work and not a billing proble. Most cooperative.

I use Dr. Ratcliff - he and staff are great - very nice up to date office. Maureen cleans my teeth with a vengeance while talking her head off and also trying not to yell at me for all I do to my teeth (coffee, tea, coke, red wine, etc) - she does a great job. while Dr. Ratcliff isn't exactly Mr. Personality, he's very nice and has never touched a tooth in my head - in other words he is conservative with his work and won't advise you to do anything you don't need ... I've also heard nothing but good things about Dr. Ruder over the years.

Thank you all for your informative suggestions on these dentists. I remember years ago I went to Dr. Radcliff, but forgot his name. Thank you Toosie for reminding me. Last I remembered he was over in Destin. Is this still the case?
