On Wednesday, January 28th we will be having a seminar on bio-identical hormones. One of the questions we will address is why Oprah likes bio-identical hormones.

Recently, she has written about the fact that she is taking bio-identical hormones and how it felt like a "veil was lifted" when she did this. She has discussed the issue in detail in a recent episode and we will discuss this further.

We will discuss normal hormonal fluctuations and common imbalances in hormones. Weight gain due to hormonal problems will be discussed as well.

Common tests for measuring hormone levels will be discussed and risks and benfits of hormones will be discussed in detail.

That particular Oprah show aired early in this market so I DVR'd it & watched it today. When it runs in your area, be sure to see it. I'm now trying to track down docs who prescribe bio-identical HRT. Or at least are willing to discuss it.

Your best bet may be to contact your nearest compounding pharmacy and ask them for docs who prescribe bio-identicals. No doubt you'll have several to choose from in the Chicago area. You can get testing done through http://www.canaryclub.org.

FYI... Oprah's website (give above by Dr. Bawa) has more up to date information about HRT in one place (video, articles, shows, etc) than any other resource I've ever seen. Thanks to Oprah for bringing women's health into mainstream where it belongs, and for bringing in leading MDs specializing in women's health (Dr. Northrup, etc).

this is a good start. however, when I called our local compounding pharmacy, they only listed a few local docs. I've found there are more Docs in the area prescribing bioidentical hormones. I found that my own ob/gyn is extremely knowledgable and experienced in the field of HRT including bios. She uses a compounding pharmacy in Miami which meets their standards of excellence, they work with closely, etc. I mention this, because I was very surprised and so happy to find that my own Doc was my best resource! you never know, do ya?

also, I have read about Dr. Bawa's work and experience in the field of HRT/Bios and as far as I know the destin compounding pharmacy did not give his name either.
