Mr. McCall said there will have to be a cut in jobs at Walton County Schools. I was kind of shocked that there could be a deficit of 6-7 million dollars and that employees would have to be cut. I understood Mr. Davis said they have a buffer/ reserve but if I remeber correctly there is not enough to overcome the STATE OF FLORIDA's shortfall. Do we see where this is going. The State will never ever in my opinion provide the funding back to where funding was before the downturn, they will keep telling the School Boards that they will have to raise taxes to educate local kids. Sorry folks, taxes WILL have to increase, who knows when, but it is coming.

Yes. Those dastardly vouchers that are educating children in private schools for $4K instead of the $7K that it takes in a public school. We have to stop that from spreading or before long our school taxes will start to fall.

My point was that the county would be much worse off right now if that money were flowing into private schools. It is always interesting how people that are pro voucher seem to forget that public money shouldn't be going to private schools.

Of course the cost of private education would go up drastically if they didn't have the ability to discriminate against those that were coming through the doors.

Private school that accept vouchers can not discriminate. And I do not forget where the money is going or coming from. But school districts are funded per student. If the level of taxation stayed the same there would actually be more money for the remaining public students.

Yes, so by that logic the private school gets the funding of the student they accept. That's a nice tidy do nothing profit of $3,000 per student. All of the voucher laws I ever saw just directed the public funding to the school, not the cost of tuition.

Private schools have always been very adept at discriminating. In fact most of the private schools in the south were started solely to get around desegregation laws. Our own state capital has two such schools. One was religious the other was non-religious. Both were founded within 6 months of desegregation.

Again I stand by my statement that by allowing any student to attend a private school the cost per student of those private schools would increase.

If you are willing please explain further.

So there are laws that can be enforced. Why not enforce the things instead of passing on a way to save money? Oh yea, I forgot, most private schools do not have unions.

So what if it does? They agree to educate for a certain price, if they do not then you go somewhere else. I believe the main point is that private schools are showing that education can be done for less. Keep it up and maybe you will touch on just why that is. If not Mark will be jumping in here and will certainly bust me on why private schools can do it cheaper.

Oh yea, private schools, no unions.

No, private schools equal no special needs children and no handicapped children. That would slash any schools budget. Of course private schools also generally have a very vague clause that allows them to expel a student for anything.

My point is that by limiting your focus on whom you are educating you can do it for much cheaper. It's not due to unions. Most teachers in private schools surprise surprise make more money, with more resources, and fewer headaches.

You're just arguing for the sake of arguing.
