I have a colleague whom I believe is obsessed with saving children. She and her husband adopted three children from the old Soviet Union. Then they adopted four more. We all wonder if she'll adopt even more. The family obviously needs a huge vehicle (equals gas guzzler) to go anywhere together. I admire her for her humanitarianism, but she can't save them all. I think the three children would have had a better quality of life than seven. I guess that's an awful thing for me to say, but that's what many of us think. Sorry.

Wow -- this is really getting horrifying!

Grandma: Octuplets mom obsessed with having kids - Yahoo! News

I'm starting to think there should be criminal charges for the doctor(s), and psychiatric evaluation for the "mother." And that the octuplets should be taken away and split up two by two, adopted by parents who can properly care for them.
I agree. This is getting more bizarre by the minute.

What kind of life do these poor kids look forward to? I think the lady with 18 single-birth kids is nuts, but all of those kids are well-cared for, play instruments (yikes--they're bigger than my band!) and they take care of each other. We know another family that has 12 (single birth) and all the kids are on the buddy system--each of the older 6 has to help a younger sibling get ready for school/church and do chores. You can't do that with 8 infants.

And what about the risk she took? Not only the high risk of injuring or disabling one of the infants because there were too darned many in there, but if she had ruptured she would have orphaned six children.

Six children. Dang. My mother was given up for adoption in 1942 because she was born into a family with 6 older children. (She was actually the 8th; she has a sister who was born and given up 15 months before.) The mother knew she couldn't care for more children. (The father was a selfish batturd who didn't believe in preventing unwanted pregnancy.) Mom grew up knowing that she was given by a mother who loved her enough to let her go to a family who loved her and who could care for her.

This "mother" is selfish, and I have no respect for her. I have a set of friends who just found out they can't have kids...there's a great home for some of them right down the street from me! :bang:

I've known several families with 6 or more who do just fine, but they're at least 15 months apart all the way down the line. 14 that are this close together in age (and 8 infants at one time with other toddlers in the house) is ridiculous.

The oldest child is 7. He or she has a lot to bear for seven years old.
I'm from a family of 6 but there are 18 years between the oldest and youngest.
I can barely keep up with 2 much less 14....oh, when those 8 start walking! :yikes:

She will have plenty of $$ help- book deals, magazines bidding on the pics/stories, churches will give her a bus and house and members will be volunteer nannies and write checks, good samaritans, a TV show a la Jon & Kate plus 8....financially this is a moneymaker, and that's what disgusts me.

I can't help but wonder if this is why she did it.

Let me get this straight - I pay hundreds of dollars a month for health insurance that won't cover anything, but this lady is somehow getting $$ fertility treatments on the taxpayer's dime for 14 pucking kids!!!!

Not just $$ for the treatments (that she didn't need) but also around 3.2 million dollars for the hospital bill for these kids she won't be able to care for.

Any medical personnel who signed off on these treatments or gave her fertility treatments better get out their GD checkbook.

And baby momma better start selling her plasma and anything else.

I'm NOT paying for ANY of this! I am drawing the line!!!!
