I have been buying the family bulk sized items that are on sale, and of late, in my area, there have been some phenomenal deals on meats and canned items. Then I break up and package into meal sized portions and freeze. Some things I marinate, so I leave in the fridge for a day or so, then move to the freezer.

Also, we have a shopping arrangement now with family and neighbors. Some of shop more at certain places, but each store has sometimes a deal you can't pass up, but the trip there doesn't warrant your time, so...now I pick up items I know or are asked to, that others will use, like butter was $1.50 a lb - limit 4- so I have on occasion gone back in and got another 4 for family and neighbors. The same goes for others. We read the fliers, we know whose going where and drop and email or quick call and let them know to pick something up. My neighbor gets free delivery from one store if you spend $50 or more and since we've lived and known each other for so long, she will add something to her list she knows I use that may be on sale.

Also, having meals together has been nice and saves on fuel costs. We got pork loin for .99 a lb and got a 15 pounder and all ate together. Everyone brings a side. It is fun, especially in the winter when you're not getting out as much to see neighbors or friends. I have family close by, so I get to spend more quality time with them and we get a bigger bang for our buck.

If you use certain items all the time, check the web sites of the distributor. They often email coupons from time to time or you can print directly from their site. if I find one in the papers, fine, but I found that I clipped a coupon for something I really didn't need or got a better price from the store brands, so coupons help if it's really an item you use, otherwise, I only brief through the coupons insert from time to time. You have to be careful with those.

I, too, also shop online for certain items with success.

My husband now takes lunch with him since he had to do some layoffs and now is picking up slack of former workers. Less time stopping to buy something and less expensive than dropping $10 for lunch every day. I bought him a cool/hot lunch tote that came equipped with utensils and side pockets for mayo, ketchup, etc. He says it like a picnic in a bag. He also enjoys the little fortunes I put on or a note and wonders why we never did this sooner. :D
I bought the tote on Amazon, but you can probably find them in some of the larger stores. I also get the ice packs in multiples, so there is always one available in case he forgets to put it in the freezer the night before.

Some libraries have a video collection with new releases. I get the movies that I wouldn't necessarily rent on my own, but wouldn't mind watching and you can put your name down for a new release )they are out frequently) I also use Netflix, which I love because you can change plans according to needs, and I do not have to go pick it up.
