I'm curious - when was he made aware of the errors? Did he agree to pay the additional taxes only when he was nominated for Trade Representative - ala Daschle.

Not sure but considering he is filing an amended return and paying $9,975, at least a portion of it appears Daschle-esque.

This is what I wonder about: when Obama's team screens candidates being considered for various appointments, surely by now someone asks each candidate if they have any tax issues. If they said yes, why continue with them as an appointee? I mean, the tax issues are really getting old. If the answer is no, then shut their candiacy down as soon as you know they lied. Obama will be the Teflon President for a long time and I get that but at some point, he has to be held accountable for poor judgment or poor screening.

Question - how are these people getting reelected w/ all these tax issues? :dunno:

If I was running against someone for public office and they didn't pay their taxes I'd certainly make an issue of it!

Unless you also did not pay your taxes. I guess non-politicians are the only ones paying taxes. My parents did me a disservice: they taught me to follow rules. They apparently were not very enlightened. :D

These has got to be a comedy routine and the jokes on us.....:dunno:

"Another nominee to President Obama?s Cabinet is embroiled in tax issues, but it is unclear whether they will impede his confirmation by the Senate.

Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk, nominated as Obama?s U.S. Trade Representative, made several errors on his tax returns, according to a report released Monday afternoon by the Senate Finance Committee. He has agreed to pay $9,975 in additional taxes to make up for the errors, the report said.

The report said Kirk will file an amended return next week. The panel is also postponing a confirmation hearing for Kirk, initially scheduled for Thursday, until March 9. "

FTLOC...I really thought we were done with politicians from Texas for a while.

If paying taxes is patriotic, what does that say about all these "several errors on his tax returns"? Are these math errors or creative tax return "errors"?

From now on, first call on a potential appointee is to the IRS! :bang:

I would bet that if either of you were appointed some IRS agent from "the other side" would find something in your taxes too.

I hear you on finding errors (whether it is from "the other side" or not ), but a math error v. blatant evasion are two different things. BTW...ignorance doen't help one's case, either.

You must admit there have been a string of these things.
