Personally, I think he's a god.
I've never heard of this movie. Which Smiling Joe is it about? There are many. If you are asking which I am, God or General, I think neither. I'm more like a turnip, just doing my little thing, until I am no longer growing, and turn into some worm's dinner. Interesting thought: maybe insects are growing us (humans) for dinner later in life, if we don't turn and kill them all first. Eat or be eaten -- the life in the world.
Worms must hate cremation.
Our Smiling JOe is not a God nor a General. He is a Guru! 
I think more of a beet than a turnip, really. He is definitely more colorful than a turnip, and much sweeter.
