So, a lot of those wonderful tourists that visit FL and dump money into the local economies are down right vigilant and crazy on the roads. Ever heard the phrase, "Hotter 'N Georgia Asphalt?" Well, today is hotter than Georgia asphalt.

From FL to GA, there was this lady in a very old smaller gold Acura, FL plates who jockeyed with everyone all the way. She would speed up to 90, get in front of you, then slow down to 60! ARGH.....I use the cruise, so that is very aggravating! I finally got around her and left her behind, but the route is not interstate driving so people catch up with you in the towns. I was quite surprised to see this gold Acura sneak in behind me as I was getting on I-185 and she did the same thing to everyone on the Interstate. I pulled over and let her do her thing, getting a ways in front of me and I thought, "She's either going to get a ticket or blow up her engine." GA State Patrolmen do not mess with wreckless drivers. (I love their hats, BTW!) It was 101*F and I kept watching my temperature guage - all groovy in the Ho. A five hour drive in the heat of the day on a hot day was setting the stage for what started happening next!

Several miles down the road, I smell smoke and then I start to see that dreaded white smoke. There's the gold Acura still driving about 70, not using her brakes to pull over and she was engulfed! People were getting out of her way. So, if that's not bad enough, she blew her engine about 200 yards from I-85, which was extremely heavy traffic and she would have had much better chances of someone stopping to help her, plus if she had made it to I-85, she would have been just steps from the weigh station where she could have waited in the A/C and GA State Patrolman probably would have helped her......DANG!

So, she experienced an untimely demise, which was safer for us all. But, now things get out of hand. Heavy, heavy traffic, only two lanes and there's always someone going slower in the left lane. I find that in this kind of traffic, you do really have to be defensive AND polite. If someone in the right blinkers to merge left, it's just safer to slow down a mile or two and let the person merge into your lane.

OK - Tennessee plates in a brand new green DENALI would speed up until almost hitting the car in front of him so no one could get in front of him.....like allowing a car in front of you will lengthen your drive time any. This went on and on for miles, until an 18-wheeler almost ran him off the road! That was scary! My heart skipped a beat!

Then, those cute boys from NC!! Nice new white Ford Explorer, driving with his knees, talking on the phone, smiling and waving at me! Speeding up to catch up to me, if I slowed down, he did as well. He didn't even have his eyes on the road.....almost hit the boat in front of him.
New Pathfinder hits a cone and blows a tire! This is actually a dangerous stretch of interstate while the construction is going on - something like 30 miles of construction and narrow interstate driving!

I crest a hill and all I can see are brake lights everywhere! Father's Day! I doubt there is any work on the road and assume it is an accident. Traffic was completely stopped and backed up for miles. From all the crazies, I presumed this was a pretty bad accident and I not only did I not want to see it, I didn't want to sit in the heat as I watched another car start smoking!! I took the next exit and just zig zagged my way to Atlanta, which was such a much more pleasant drive, scenery, etc!;-) The road less traveled!!

I do not understand people getting behind the wheel with a deliberate meanness! I don't understand deliberate meanness! If you're reading this and see you car mentioned, you know it's you!

I sincerely hope everyone made it home safely!

My trip home Friday wasn't quite that eventful, but I had several experiences with 2-wheeled attempted suicides. Singin' Chicken needs to give some of his peeps lesson in motorcycle safety.

I call them "Zoom-Splats". They literally zoom by at 100mph, and I fully anticipate seeing them splattered on the road up ahead, sadly.

Holy stressful rat poop batman!! I got a stiff neck and white knuckles just reading that.

Great description. You seem so observant, Lynnie, I'm surprised you missed the woman plucking her eyebrows, applying eyeliner & mascara - using both hands...and maneuvering the car with the Big Mac securely wedged between the steering wheel and her large "Ab" while driving 85 mph in the construction zone. :bicycle:

The last time I made that trip was the day I moved here. It was surreal, not a single crazy driver the whole trip, like someone cleared the roads. Thats never happened. To further confirm I made the right decision to move here, I also delivered my best personal rock concert for myself that day as well. It was as if Adam Lambert himself were in the car. (Bwaahahahaaa!)

Be safe out there! Get back to where you only need to be in a hurry to get to Publix before 5pm rush hour.

Crazy drivers aren't just for the city anymore. They (neither expressed or implied to be any particular reader of this post) come here to vacay and think they're still in rush hour traffic on 285, the 610 loop or whatever mega highway they traverse every day right up on someone's bumper. Makes me ill. That's why I stay home in the Summer. :pissed:
Glad you girls made it home safely.

Actually, they are called SQUIDs...
Surprisingly Quick Underdressed Instantly Dead
or...
Super Quick Until IDie

Personally, my two favorite derogatory monackers are Skin Crayons and Organ Donors

Keep the sticky side down!
