Yesterday I was shopping for a new car for my oldest daughter. The sales manager informed me that the car had been traded from a Tallahassee dealer and that it would be re-invoiced. They were going to remove the original factory sticker and print out a new one 1200 dollars higher. Folks, I have concluded car dealers may actually be a step down from meth dealers.

Why? Because he wanted to sell his stuff for more than the MSRP? Use to happen all the time with really popular cars. Surprising that anyone with think you could do it today.

And what did he say when you told him you had no interest in doing any further business with him because of his actions?

Sounds like he was just trying to force you into buying the car right then and there before it was 'marked up'. Gotta love high pressure sale people... ick.. I doubt it was ever marked up, he probably just had success using that ploy in the past.

Wrong move for an auto dealer in this climate! Oh well - tally ho! Keep us posted.

Hope you voted with your feet and went someplace else...

it was the sales manager at a gm store. the last words between us were" you probably won't like this". i've owned about 50 cars, and i have to say i was more amused than angry. i hope gm goes under.

I find that rather shortsighted, as the reason the GM dealership in my parents' town is expecting to survive relatively unscathed is because they focused on service.

A significant portion of their business is repeat customers and service/repair - though it didn't hurt that they used the boom year profits to pay off their mortgage. ;-)
