Best way I've found to buy a new car--
1. Figure out what you want, make, model, color, accesories, etc.
2. Go online, research, figure out the absolute final best price for it including tax/tag/title, etc.
3. Call all the dealers in the area, ask for the sales manager. Tell him you are buying a car today--not tomorrow or next week. Ask if he/she has one like you want and inform him what you're willing to pay--not negotiable. They will tell you- no can do.
4. Wait for the call back from the one who will take your offer.
5. Go pick up car.

Be ready with witty reply to the ones who call you 4 days later wanting to negotiate.

It's very frustrating for me to go to an auto dealership. In buying my last car, I did it all on line, found it on line, went and drove it, went home and negotiated via email and phone. Was more pleasant than, "Let me talk to my finance manager. Wait right here. Can I get you a coke?" Then, see the salesperson 45 min. later with a counter offer. This was right after Hurricane Katrina and suv's weren't really selling due to the gas situation - was there a gas situation?

Prior to this, I had a man type go with me and do all the talking. For some reason, man types are much more effective in dealerships than women types~~~~~

Do you and hubby still have the Pontiac? I might be remembering that wrong so if it isn't you just smack me and call me silly. :D

Not me. Mazda & Nissan. I'll save the smack for something else.:D

But i did get to use my sarcastic reply to the 3 salesmen who called me back a week later telling me they'd meet my price. Wish I could have seen their faces when I told them, sorry I bought the car the same day I told them I would. Much sputtering, and blowing.
