As to the original post ... yes PC can be carried too far, and at times has been. And by now I think the term itself is outdated.
As an idea or a movement it seems a bit ridiculous. But applied correctly, I think it's just good manners, not censorship or a violation of free speech. I think it requires people to think about how they describe someone, and consider whether that description can be hurtful or inappropriate.
And then there are things like old cartoons. Over time it becomes clear that some of them are offensive and probably should just be archived and not widely distributed. Is that censorship? Some would say so, but I'd say it's just sensible and a reflection of the evolution of thinking.
Our ideas about what is right or should be are constantly evolving. That isn't going to stop. What is "PC" now is eventually going to change. So will the label for it. I hear "PC" a heck of a lot less than I did 15 years ago. Kindness and thoughtfulness, however, will never go out of style. ;-)
