Does anyone know more about who made the robo-calls this afternoon for the bank robbery in DeFuniak Springs. Heard from someone up there that they got a call about 2:30 p.m. to be aware of suspect in area around Circle Drive. Last I heard there were a lot of law enforcement vehicles around the DFS Library and park area. Wondered if the same system was used that the Walton County Sheriff's department used last week for the Pt. Washington area, or if DFS has their own system. Hope everyone is okay.

It's for Defunn. Not sure, but would think it came from the 911 system.
This is who they are looking for

Crazy. I must have pulled in the drive-through at this bank right after he ran out the door and seconds before the law and helicopter showed. When I pulled up, there wasn't anyone in the drive-through area, and I was sitting and waiting. Finally, a gal came to the window and I slid my deposit into the drawer. She disappeared from the area again and was gone a really long time. While I was waiting, the helicopter started circling and police showed up everywhere. One popped his head around the building, looked at me, then went back out front.

Finally, the bank gal came back and gave me my receipt. I asked if anything was wrong, and she said no! I stopped the deputy in the front parking lot and asked if I was good to safely leave, not knowing what the heck was going on, and he told me to get moving. So I decided to skip the trip across the parking lot to Walgreen's and hightailed it out onto 331 south.

Called Bdarg and told him to check the mental health insurance benefits because my nerves are about shot. Got on the computer when I arrived home and saw that yes, my life was affected not once, but twice in the same freaking week by a bank robber. What are the odds?:dunno: I don't know whether to leave the house anymore! I do know one thing- time for a drink.

Be glad you didn't go to Wal-Greens. We got a call that they were evacuated temporarily.

I must be developing some sort of bank-robber-in-the-vicinity instinct. Getting really tired of being a bundle of nerves.

Just issued release.

On Friday, September 04, 2009 at approximately 12:25 pm a white male entered the Bank Trust located at 993 U.S. Highway 331 South in DeFuniak Springs and demanded money from the teller.
The suspect is described as being 40-50 years of age, approximately 5’6” in height, and approximately 185 to 200 lbs. He is reported to be wearing a light gray t-shirt, with some type of screen printing on the front, and blue jeans, and an orange and blue ball cap. He is described as having medium complexion, carrying a maroon bank bag (deposit bag style), and being clean-shaven. The suspect did not display any type of weapon, but a weapon was mentioned by the suspect. The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. He was last seen by bank employees walking north parallel to U.S. Highway 331 South.
Officers responded immediately upon notification through the Bank’s alarm system, as well as notification by 911 calls placed by Bank employees once the suspect had left the building. A man-hunt ensued, which included help from agencies such as the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and use of the helicopter for surveillance. Canine search was implemented with help from the Walton Correctional Institute.
A perimeter was established in adjacent areas to the bank’s location; where officers searched on foot and patrol vehicles for approximately 3 hours.
A large blue pick-up truck was seen leaving the area at the approximate time that the suspect left the bank. It is unsure at this time whether or not the vehicle was involved in the robbery.
The DeFuniak Springs Police is conducting the investigation with assistance from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
At this time the suspect is still at large. If anyone has information pertaining to this incident please contact the DeFuniak Springs Police Department at (850)892-8511.

Probably from the Rapidnotify system that I get the impression is implemented through emergency management. Unless the laws have changed, and they very well may have, you can not use the 911 system for this sort of thing.

I was thinking more EOC when I wrote this, but had no idea the two were really separate. I didn't know for sure how they sent it out, yet. Thanks.
