So what is this food, so often associated with Mexico, doing in the Mississippi Delta? you might ask. Isn't this just an aberration? Like finding curried conch in Collierville, Tennessee or foie gras in Fort Smith, Arkansas?

Please follow the link above for more of the story...

Kimberly is making Pork Hot Tamales this week. We are taking orders for Friday afternoon delivery or we can have them ready for you at the Seaside Farmer's Market Saturday morning. She uses spiced pork roast with all fresh ingredients. They are about a "three" on a scale of "one to ten" spicy. We can also included homemade salsa for my favorite...the loaded tamales (covered in salsa, sour cream, and jalape?os) *see picture*.

Tamales are $20 per dozen. The salsa comes in a generous container for $5.

We also have homemade beef jerky for $12 and watermelon candy for $5 per bag.

Give us a call, email, or PM on Sowal.com.

Thanks!

I bought a dozen chicken tomales and salsa last Saturday from Russ and Kimberly. I have only 2 tomales left and the salsa is 3/4 gone. Good stuff guys. The tomales smothered in salsa are great too. I am just before a pay period, but I would like a half dozen pork tomales and another salsa if you would please. I will be in Seaside on Friday, at the Seaside Neighborhood School where I work, from about 3-7pm. PM or call me and I'll give you directions.

To all other SoWallers out there, I lived in Southern California and know a good tomale when I taste one. If you like tomales, give Russ and Kimberly's a try. I doubt you'll regret it.

Thank you so much for the kind words! We will have those ready for you on Friday. I will bring them to you at the school.

Tamales - inhaled

:clap:Wanted to let everyone know that my family relished the tamales and salsa that we ordered from Russ and Kim last week. They were wonderful - such flavor!! We had a large group so ordered aplenty (6 dozen!). We had teams of cooks who prepared supper each night so having the main dish all ready made it beach-easy on our designated cooking night.

There were a few leftover, which on the other nights saved one little girl who did not like seafood. She ate them up. She's a tough critic considering her paternal grandfamily live in Mexico where she lived for awhile.

So thanks for making such delicious food!!! Highly recommend.

P.S. The jerky was great too (we were stingy with that though!).

I was watching the food network last year and they had the history of the tamales in mississippi.

One of my fav. steak places is Does, which started in Greenville, Ms. I go to the one in Paducah, Ky. Great steaks and very good tamales.

FYI....on Saturday night 8/19/09 ESPN will be showing the Arkansas/Georgia game. The "taste of the town" feature will be Doe's in Fayetteville!

Go Hawgs!

I lived in Tulsa for the last 10 years. We had a Doe's. I went there once and had no idea that it was a MS soul food place. I just figured it out a few months back when Kimberly started working on her tamales for the masses. I regret we did not eat there more.

Are you going to continue to take tamale orders through the winter?

Yes we are. We are out of town this weekend visiting family (9-26 and 9-27). The Seaside Farmer's Market is going to continue through the end of the year on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 1:00. We plan on taking orders for Friday delivery on 30A or you can pick them up at the farmer's market on Saturday mornings. If you can place your order for Saturday pickup that helps us out tremendously.

Thanks!
