"When nearly 3,000 people were killed on 9/11, we began wars and were willing to devote more than $1 trillion in additional expenses. Yet about the same number of Americans die from our failed insurance system every three weeks.

The obstacle isn?t so much money as priorities. America made it a priority to provide tax breaks, largely to the wealthy, in the Bush years, at a 10-year cost including interest of $2.4 trillion. Allocating less than half that much to assure equal access to health care isn?t deemed an equal priority."

Yep, let them try and get private healthcare. Then see if there are some reforms! :D

I would also be in favor of changing the qualifications for them to get their pension.

I don't think most Americans realize how little time an elected representative needs to accrue before they are set up for life on the taxpayer dime.

Just for future reference: an Opinion/Editorial piece is by definition biased in its content.

IMO this writer has a lot of credibility in the field of health care; has contributed much to the overall mission of ending disease around the world; and is a recognized authority in the field; his research and reporting is considered by most professionals in the field to be credible--but in this example, he is a columnist, not a reporter...he is writing his opinion.

We have far too much opinion flying around these days. I'd rather get back to the facts and get some work done. :D

Did you actually read the piece, or did you just dismiss it because of the excerpt she selected?

I am guessing the latter, since the actual editorial was very reasonable, rational, and non-partisan.
