I really hate to cut into the fabulous birther vein of this, but NPR had a really good take on this: To paraphrase: Lou Dobbs has developed in the last few years a passion for being thoroughly opinionated in his broadcast, to the point that he is getting somewhat obnoxious (in my words IMHO) and CNN is in the midst of trying to position themselves (in my words IMHO) as dedicated to trying to present essentially the straight news and to strive to be as unbiased as possible. It's a win-win for both of them. CNN doesn't need another O'Reilly/Beck/Hannity. If Lou wants to spout out, now he can do so unrestrained.
Ratings argue otherwise. CNN is tanking and plugging in John King to somehow fix things seems like re-arranging Titanic's deck chairs. Lou Dobb's show was very redundant, but at least it was something unique for CNN. My opinion anyway (ratings not open to argument, however).
