Here are some of the etiquette rules at our church that we must follow for daughter's wedding. So no cell phone videos allowed in our church.

No ?love songs,? secular or pop music is allowed. No taped music allowed in either the Sanctuary or Chapel.

The photographer is permitted to take pictures in the Narthex; however, no flashbulbs and/or any other form of lighting shall be used after the bride starts down the aisle with the exception of a picture of the bride and her escort coming in and going down the aisle. No pictures shall be made during the ceremony, except time exposures from the balcony of the Sanctuary. The photographer is cautioned to make sure that there is no noise involved in the making of time exposures, changing of film, etc., during the ceremony.

No pictures are to be taken by members of the congregation during the service.

Photographs are permissible during the recessional. The photographer may stand in the Narthex doorway for these photos.

A video camera placed on a tripod may be used in the choir area during the wedding ceremony if the equipment can be set up in such a way as not to detract from the altar area. No person may operate a video camera in the altar area. The video camera must be placed on the pulpit side of the chancel.

Video cameras may be set up on the outside aisle of the Sanctuary behind the columns and must remain stationary or placed in the balcony.
No cell phones are to be visible or audible in the sanctuary.

The Pope has a hotline to god. If god gets all excited over meat on Friday and plastic baggies for your weenie then I'm sure he'll weigh in on cell phones in church. Until then you could let your cell phone phobia go.

P.S. Just because a cell phone is on doesn't mean it's going to ring, mine has airplane mode that turns off all transmitters so I can play games, watch movies, still use the camera, etc.

Oh yeah, since we're all up in the religious spirit I'll leave you with this:

Judge not, that ye be not judged. Matthew 7:1

It's not a "cell phone phobia", it's an ongoing frustration with the complete lack of manners many people have when using them.

The Vatican has signs posted at all the entrances telling people no cell phones, no camera flashes, to wear proper dress etc. These aren't just my arbitrary rules for proper behavior in a holy place.

In our case, Methodist.

The first time we went to the Vatican, we had heard about the rules. I tell ya, you'd hate to wait in the summertime heat for hours as we did and then be turned away.

The rules from Wikipedia:

A dress code is enforced for entry into St. Peter's Basilica. The code is based upon what is considered "modest" and "appropriate" dress for visiting a Catholic church, and tourists and visitors are reminded that, although St. Peter's is an architectural and artistic monument, it is first a place of worship and prayer. The dress code forbids:
  • hats for lay men inside the basilica
  • shorts/skirts above the knees
  • sleeveless shirts
  • shirts exposing the navel
  • shirts for women that expose cleavage
  • shirts which contain profanity
  • excessive jewellery
The use of mobile phones is also prohibited, as is smoking.

I'll remind you of that the next time you get an "important" call or text at brunch. Practice what you preach

Those rules don't mention camcorders or digital cameras. Again Christmas Mass at the Vatican is akin to a Beatles reunion concert; it's really hard to get in and most likely you'll only get to do it once. I've known people who have done it they have all said they wish they had recorded it since it was so overwhelming they couldn't remember it well.

Having said that I'm sure it's available for purchase at the Vatican gift shop on DVD and Blue-ray.

I can't post Penn and Teller videos because of all the profanity. However, go to youtube.com and type into the search box: penn teller manners  Hit the search button and go to the very first video. It'll look like this:
