Yep - we are paying for all the errors, fraud, uninsured folks, and folks who don't/can't pay.

You know, the ones whose health care many feel we shouldn't foot the bill for because it's socialism.

Crazy system. Got to be a better way!!

I recall when my mother was in the hospital on her 8th operation to save her other leg (lost first one at age 68 to type II diabetes) and the nurse would come up carrying BOOKS with my mother's records that they would shuffle from gurney to gurney. And each and every operation they would ask (sheet covering her) "Now what are we doing today" and my mother would say "Operating on my leg" and they would say "Which leg sweetie." :dunno:

We NEED a better system.

Thanks for article.

My step mom got charged for two gall bladder operations and the insurance company actually payed their 80% of both. Great system!

There is no doubt the system needs to be fixed but what people are charged are charges large enough to cover pharmacists, nurses, orderlys, maintenance men, hospital administrators, hospital malpractice insurance and other cost I haven't even mentioned. My wife, a registered nurse, worked with an insurance provider as a utilization and review administrator and says although the system is convoluted it works but can certainly be improved through well thought out change. The present healtcare bill is not that well thought out change. BTW, she also says she doesn't think the government can provide inexpensive change or well thought out change.

Despite marrying you :) Betty is sharp.

However Tricare/Medicare is government supported medical care.

I am one of those that believe our health care system needs reworking, I am in favor of government making those changes, but there must be others out there who believe this way also, even in Walton County. I recently read an article where citizens went to the Walton County Commissioners seeking change in how a private company charges for Medical Air Transport. This is a for profit company, and the way the article read ir was possible there were going to be discussions. I don't know, but that sounds like we can/ are selective about what we as individual want. Government Health Insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, Tri Care and the like. My opinion, but I never saw anyone who needed to fly complain about the bill when their life was on the line.

Betty says her decision to marry me was a good one. I really snowed her, didn't I? She also says that while Tricare/Medicare are government run programs, a lot can be done to them to make them way more efficient.

The current system costs too much, no matter who pays for it, and therein lies the problem.

The edict that providers must provide care regardless of the ability to pay is the root of this problem. Providers charge paying customers extra to recoup the cost for those who cannot/willnot pay. The governments ability to basically pay what they want is another factor. The medicare/medicaid rate is typically 30-40% of what the provider charges.

Free enterprise only works to the extent that it is indeed free.

Before you go crazy about the inhumanity of refusing care, I did not say I agreed/disagreed with universal care, only that this is a contributor to the problem. Simple economics.
