Suppose your child was wrongfully convicted of a crime that you committed. Would you step forward and admit to the crime? Even if you did not like him and he was mean and cruel, abused animals, and also committed many petty crimes for which he was never caught. Oh, and he's also brilliant.:D

You didn't use the subjunctive case. The thread title should be "if your child were brilliant." So you don't need to worry about that.

JK. :rotfl:Daughter is a grammar Nazi, so I stand corrected 24/7 by her with regard to my grammatical errors.

Grammar aside, one is doing a disservice to one's child if s/he fronts for the child's mistakes.

:funn::funn:Dang! Tough crowd today!

I could say the child is deceased, but that would completely further obliterate my text. So, let's just roll with it. Kid's alive, did something bayd, but is a genius and parent knows kid will do great things in life....................

:D brillant!

IMO any parent who would take the blame for a child's crime "because they know they are brilliant and will do great things" is 99% of the reason why said child committed the crime - no penalties and parents always insulating them from consequences.

As much as my maternal instinct would want to protect my child, if he did something that would get him a seven-year prison sentence, chances are I wasn't holding his hand when he did it. So, no, I would not take the blame, and neither would ShallowsFuzz. (We've already had this conversation, when my cousin's kids got in trouble.)

He would do less than seven anyway, and if he truly learned his lesson, he can start fresh when it is over.

otoh...how old is this theoretical child???

first of all, no question on whether my children are brilliant. Jackie would say "duh?" :roll:
:blush:

but No, I'm not taking the rap for something someone else did, my child or not. I would tell them what my mama told me: "If you hadn't been there, it wouldn't have happened to you" :dunno: :roll:

do the crime, do the time.

:wave:

what SN said.

plus a question: what does a child being brilliant have to do with doing the right thing? every child has potential to do great things though some may make mistakes along the way. :D
