I have been visiting Naples for the past 35 years and never did i think of visiting the panhandle. My wife and i are, and have been considering a move to Naples for years. That is before i heard about the beaches of South Walton. After reading these fourms and blogs and websites, i have fallen in love!! We are planning on moving down there this summer without ever visiting or seeing it in person, except for the time we'll be there looking for a place. I look forward to having you all as neighbors! I hope to be telling this story as a permanent resident in 20 years!!!:D

SouthWalton County is pretty cool. I've been living here for "over several decades" and it's a great laid-back beach town with the added spice of having georgeous coastal dune lakes and incredibly diverse and interesting "planned communities"(villages/towns) that present you with the foremost in today's architecture. It's not highbrow and it's not double-wide, if you know what I mean. I've been on SoWal for not much more than a year, and it's amazing the network of "beach nuts" we have.

The one advantage Naples has is far milder winters. It gets chilly in the Panhandle December through February. Don't throw out those winter coats yet because every year we regularly get a week or three when the overnight lows are down into the 30s.

Though you can still have an orange tree in your yard if you baby if for the first couple of winters.

Came here for a wedding in 2006 and fell in love with the beach. Later that year my employer (at that time) was trying to get me to move to Sydney, Australia for a two year assignment. At first I didn't take it seriously but after they sent me there and had me meet my new team and had me working with relocation specialists I was all in. In December of that year the whole thing unexpectedly came undone. I was mentally and physically prepared to move to a beach. So while here over New Years visiting the same couple whose wedding first brought me here I put an offer down on a place. It was accepted with a contingency that we close in 30 days. Moved here Feb 3, 2007...

I passed through accidentally in 1988-1989 with my architect boyfriend, who had just read about and studied PUD's with Seaside as 'the one that gets it right.' Seaside had been mentioned and endorsed by Prince Charles. We stayed at Seagrove Villas Motel, which he also loved. Had a great time at Bud & Alley's. Kept going back......and, eventually bought.

Gave that BF an engagement party a few years later.

I came through accidently In 88 or 89 the first time as well. Headed from Daytona where I lived,to Destin to visit family on Christmas Eave. It was snowing and cold and dark when we got to the bar my family owned.
I remember asking Aj. "Why in the hell would you own a bar out here"? When we awoke in the morning and returned to the area where the bar was, it all made since. Came to stay in 2000. Building my second house here,(blue mountain) now.

Where was the bar? What was it's name? I bet I've been there...
