Dougiebaby says it perfectly. once again. there is really nothing to add about her so I won't.
but I do want to say that to those who say we are ALL to blame, well, blaming isn't very useful. yes, we are all oil dependent - the whole world is. I've had someone say to me that Florida doesn't want offshore drilling but we drive cars so we aren't environmentalists we just don't want driling in our backyard. hell yeah! if we don't protect our environment, who the hell will? in fact we're seeing that the drilling taking place far away from our shores is about to impact us significantly. we care greatly about the planet, not just our shores. but if we don't take special interest in our shores then they will be no more.
yes, we drive cars. and millions of tourists drive cars to our great state. but most of us car drivers also want and expect and vote for progress in new energy sources. the reduction of fuel dependency. better transportation. where is our high speed rail system? humans have great capacity for progress and advancement (oil use for energy was and is progress by the way, its just that apparently we don't know much about protecting the planet while drilling her, and we don't know much about monitoring our usage).
so, I'm just saying let's not blame. let's support everything we can to go to the next level - reducing fuel use and finding new sources of energy. all while protecting our precious environment. who says we can't drive a car and protect our environment at the same time?
sorry geo for dissing the Palin subject of this thread but I don't listen to a thing she has to say much less respond to it.
