I know I'm risking a major flaming here but I have been wondering if anyone besides me is noticing how it's men in charge of almost everything to do with the mess. At least from the coverage I've seen. Does anyone wonder if things might be different/better if more women were involved?

I think the satire video reflected this gender imbalance -- I watched it last night but I seem to remember there was only one woman in it???

For whatever this may be worth -- tangential value at best I suppose -- a good old friend of mine has worked on rigs for a certain oil company for many years now, and is a rarity to this day. She has endured physical abuse, psychological/emotional harrassment and discrimination around promotions and pay, all because of being a woman. Maybe it's not tangential, maybe it is part of the oil culture, and maybe that is part of what's so terribly wrong -- this imbalance?

I know this is gonna sting a little, but the person in charge of the MMS was a woman. I know she didn't have enough time to fix all that was screwed up about that bunch, but she sure should have been sounding warnings, at the very least. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against women in leadership positions. But this one particular woman in this one pivotal position, kind of dropped the ball.

well, who knows what the real story is there? Would not be the first time a person woman or man was put into a position with a title and no authority...just saying.

I have no idea, but apparently no one else does either...and it would be very difficult and take a long time to buck the cronyism at that agency...as the Rolling Stone article said, the president should have cleaned house over there...immediately.

I agree. I like Obama, but I feel he, too, really dropped the ball on not demanding an overhaul of an obviously severely flawed department.
