LETTER: God's oily wrath | people, magnitude, along - Opinion - Northwest Florida Daily News
Me and DS are wearing out wedding rings!God's oily wrath
June 29, 2010 9:05 AM
The oil spill along the Gulf Coast has most of us wondering why something of this magnitude could happen. With so many people?s livelihoods as well as wildlife and sea life in peril, we just may be having a spiritual wake-up call!
Having recently studied the Old Testament, my understanding of God?s ways has become more clear. Each time God chastised the Israelites, it was principally because they were not teaching their children the commandments. Nor were they following them. In addition, they were worshipping false idols.
We can readily see how the money motive in our country has replaced the desire to serve God first above all else. Our young people are steeped in sexual sins and are contracting sexually transmitted diseases in epidemic proportions. Teen suicide is far greater than in any other country, as are abortions caused by both surgery and abortifacient contraceptives.
And where are the wedding rings these days?
Just perhaps the God of Genesis, Whose first command was to be fertile, multiply and fill the earth, and Whom even the winds obey ? perhaps His cup is full. Perhaps!
I?m told that military chaplains can no longer pray in Jesus? name with our troops, although they can still mention God.
May God help us and have mercy on us!
