LETTER: God's oily wrath | people, magnitude, along - Opinion - Northwest Florida Daily News

God's oily wrath

June 29, 2010 9:05 AM

The oil spill along the Gulf Coast has most of us wondering why something of this magnitude could happen. With so many people?s livelihoods as well as wildlife and sea life in peril, we just may be having a spiritual wake-up call!
Having recently studied the Old Testament, my understanding of God?s ways has become more clear. Each time God chastised the Israelites, it was principally because they were not teaching their children the commandments. Nor were they following them. In addition, they were worshipping false idols.
We can readily see how the money motive in our country has replaced the desire to serve God first above all else. Our young people are steeped in sexual sins and are contracting sexually transmitted diseases in epidemic proportions. Teen suicide is far greater than in any other country, as are abortions caused by both surgery and abortifacient contraceptives.
And where are the wedding rings these days?
Just perhaps the God of Genesis, Whose first command was to be fertile, multiply and fill the earth, and Whom even the winds obey ? perhaps His cup is full. Perhaps!
I?m told that military chaplains can no longer pray in Jesus? name with our troops, although they can still mention God.
May God help us and have mercy on us!

Me and DS are wearing out wedding rings!

If I wanted to read crap like this I would have started a newspaper, or subscribed to it, or waste my time on their site. lol

The lounge is fine if you must. Spare us the link though. No reason to reward this type of behavior, or draw it to us.

Sure, every time there's a natural disaster it's God's punishment for our evil deeds.

Lot's of evil deeds, lots of natural disasters.

It's a bummer how the innocent often get punished w/ the wicked though.

Usually, it's Pat Robertson telling us what we're being punished for: toleration of homosexuality, feminism, failing to support Israel, ...

It's good to see the "small people" like Barbara getting into the business of telling us just what God (might) be mad about.

Prime example of "a little knowledge can be dangerous." Maybe one day she'll decide to read the rest of the Bible?

You mean that 'later' part that comes after Jesus was sacrificed for the sins that came before, therefore ushering in a new religion called Christianity?
Certain religious conversations get me confused on the whole old/new timeline dealio. :sarc:

Jewish comedian Louis Black does a rant on Christians 'using' the old testament to support judgment/fire/brimstone stances. Goes something like...
"Hey that OLD part is our Jewish part of the bible. Christians are supposed to stick to the NEW part".

Not so much, DuneAhh, more along the lines of taking one book out of many, in the Bible, and using it as her basis for 'her truth' as it's applied to the oil spill. I like to read the whole story before I form an ill-informed opinion of my own. ;-)

P.S. If you watch the whole thing you'll find out that God is apparently a procrastinator and waited until the following day.
