Yes those were politically tumultuous times as well. I still remember Hillary's "right-wing conspiracy" interview, and the general ugliness of the Lewinski affair. As to which side was uglier or first or whatever, I really can't comment as my political hate speech experience only goes back around twenty years. I get the sense that this has been going on for ages but that today, through the internet echo chamber, things are more amplified.

I've actually been experimenting with tuning out political blogs as of late, and I'm finding life less stressful because of it.

Me too. Ignorance is blissful, indeed. My cable company in Atlanta has revamped their stations and I no longer have expanded - been about three weeks so far. I've been too busy to call them to discuss options. It's nice not having CNN, FOX, Weather Channel, who sensationalizes probably more than news channels. I get all the news I need from local at 6 and 11PM. Catch up with Y'all on oil, etc........life is good! And, simple! ;-)

I wish the cable companies would let us 'a la carte' stations we like. I'd be happy with my regular channels, HBO, Showtime and IFC.....am done with news!

You've also unwittingly described the progressive left during the Bush years. :D

Two wrongs don't make a right.

I am SO tired of hearing this. 'Well, you bashed Bush so it is only fair'. Guess what? A LOT of us did not. I may have disagreed with policy but never played the hate game.

And joking about nucular is just that - a joke and funny  That's about as "mean" as I get.

Do most posters let Sarawind rant & say all manner of outrageous things & not respond?

She/he is new to the forum and is full of lonnnnnnnnnnng posts and the more outrageous the better. It's ok to respond but - absolutely the best policy is ignore. Trolls do need to be fed. I'll stop feeding as of today

Clinton's election was the first time that the opposition in such large numbers couldn't accept the outcome and denied the president's legitimacy, or so it seemed to me. They were ready to impeach him on day one, and for no reason.

Not as new as you. I've been a member of this forum since 2005 and you since 2009. Didn't you just declare in a post on this thread that you're not mean? Wrongo. Calling me a troll is your way of lashing out because we differ politically and being mean in sheep's clothing This is beneath you, Gidget.

That said I've been a fan of your posts that aren't political and enjoy them, particularly the information about whats going on at the beach.

I'm making a general statement here not directed at any one individual...

Everybody who dares to venture into the political forum needs to be thick skinned or stay out. A lot of what gets tossed around in here as fact is actually opinion.
...and you know what they say about opinions...
They're like ***holes. Everybody has one.

That does not mean, however, that if a person's opinion differs from your own that it is incorrect. Get over it.

Discussions will always get heated in here. I have yet to see one poster ever change another's mind so don't get wigged out when you get challened by another with opposing beliefs.

Please try to keep it civil and never never get personal. That crosses the line.

I have said my peace or piece...however you want to look at it.

Carry on...

I am reminded of our infamous trolls from years gone by, 2bfabian, sandybanks et al. One would create another in order to bump a thread on some conspiracy theory that was making the e-mail circuit. Regular members wouldn't respond so they had to create another member and talk to themselves. They would get warnings and play it safe in passive-aggressive ways.
somewhat entertaining but mostly sad ...............
I doubt that most trolls truly leave. (and if they are not fed, they'll try to feed themselves)

No worries...

The people on the board have a nose for trolls with multiple aliases much like the child snatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang...
