Right here!
racism won't go away for a long time.

Everybody has to have somebody to hate, it's human nature. Personally I skipped hating black people and went with hating Alabama drivers. They are much more deserving.

I agree Bob. Many fine upstanding folks (including the ones here) have learned to spin and disguise it though, but they will have to ultimately accept the fact that most voting white racists reside very comfortably within the sketchy confines of this Tea Party Movement.

For now it is a good place to hide out or be seen, without having to wear a white hood.

Racists come in all colors and wear many hats.

Biden doesn't see tea party as a racist group

There's a surprising viewpoint in this AP story Biden doesn't see tea party as a racist group:

WASHINGTON ? Vice President Joe Biden says the tea party movement is conservative and has very different ideas about government, but it's not a racist organization.
Biden tells ABC's "This Week" that some people who've participated in tea party events or who've been on the periphery of these events have made "really unfortunate comments."
But he says that he and President Barack Obama don't think the tea party is racist.

Plus CNN has this story: Tea Party Federation kicks out Williams over blog post.

Even if Biden thinks it's a racist organization, he's not going to say so. He doesn't want to open up a can of worms. There's no value in it at this point and there would be too much media back lash.

I don't know. He hasn't gotten much backlash for anything else he's said. Do you think his free pass has expired?

I happen to think that the TPers divide the Republican party such that an electable Republican Presidential candidate is unlikely to be nominated. Remember how a lot of McCain hating Republicans voted for lost cause Huckabee in the primaries? This in spite of the fact that Romney was the most electable Republican. If the Huckabe supporters had gone with Romney, we might have a Republican president today. I doubt that he would have picked a complete yahoo like Palin for a running mate as did McCain.

Huckabee wasn't a TPer, but he was a strong alternative that appealed to the Republican base, who essentially weakened the platform in the general election by helping a very weak candidate (McCain) get elected. The Tpers serve the same function whether they know it or not. While they are not all racist, they have exceeded the critical mass for racism. They stand no chance of fielding a strong presidential candidate, but they should do well in the primaries and may help steer support away from an electable Republican candidate. Should a TPer actually win the Republican Presidential nomination, he/she would not stand a chance in the general election. If you need proof, just look at the map. So it's of little benefit right now for Biden to bash a contingency that essentially weakens (disperses) his opposition.

I would agree. Most of America is in the middle, not at either end. (Although much of the world considers what we call 'The Left' to be right-of-center.) That's why really left-wing candidates like Kerry or McGovern or right-wing ones like Goldwater (although that was more perception than reality) do so poorly. Clinton figured this out and moved himself rightwards towards the center and that move paid off well for him. Hillary understands this too. Gore wasn't perceived as really left-ist, but that election outcome was 'odd'.

I would guess that most moderate voters would now perceive Obama as more left-of-center than they did during the election.

If the Republicans end up nominating a really ultra-right candidate in 2012, that will be a pretty clear signal that the investors (big donors) who are pretty much behind all of the candidates have decided that Obama gets a second term. If not, then we'll know that he hasn't pleased them enough. In the long run, we won't have much input in the matter.

One might conclude that is why AC specifically mentioned white racists and white hoods.

Nothing to conclude SWGA, AC just tries to stir up folks and make outlandish and "tr-o-lle" type comments...surprised Kurt hasn't sent him out to the barn to pick his own switch yet. I personally was offended by his "OPINION" or rather his rant.
