Hoola hooping good for slimming the waist!

Over the past couple of months I have gotten into a childhood favorite of mine, hula hooping. It has made a huge comeback with all ages, and is called hoop dancing by some. There was a big article in our newspaper last week about hula hooping classes, it is great exercise for those who need to lose inches around their middle, and from what I've read, you lose around 100 calories per 10 minutes of hula hooping. I hula hoop 30 minutes a day and love it, and don't get bored as if I were using the treadmill or exercise bike. I think you probably lose inches in other areas also besides the waist, I've noticed a looseness in my shorts I hadn't seen in a while, ha ha. Anyway, there are many videos on You Tube. If any of you women are looking for a fun exercise hula hooping is it. Here is a video clip of a girl on You Tube hooping, she is amazing. Enjoy.

Wow, neat. What got me back into this was the fact that two women at my work got hoola hoops from someone who does the printing of our books for our company, birthday presents. So when they got theirs I had to get one also. I bought one like theirs in Walgreens called the Wave Hoop, has water in it, and then I ordered a heavier one from a place called Canyon Hoops off of Amazon, ordered the 42 inch for a large adult, really should have gotten the 38 inch for small adult. I keep one at work and use the other at home, haven't gotten burnt out on it yet. How much do you charge for your hoola hoops? My husband and I will be down the end of August for a week and stay in Inlet Beach. I am slightly familiar with Pt. Washington as we go to Eden Gardens. Thanks for posting.

DD, the office manager at my work is 66 and was hooping at work but she thinks it has caused her problems with her lower back so she has given it up. But I'm not, at 50 years old I love it. You ought to try it. Did you watch the video of this girl hoola hooping? I love the giant slinky hoop.

I am not good at that, thus another form of exercise I can rule out!! Glad you found a way to be active....something I need to do!

Well, I did not think I would be able to do it either. I sure cannot hoop with the old type I had when a kid, but I have one that is weighted and it helps it stay up. But the only other exercise I get is walking the dog 2 or 3 times a day, but that is just a short walk, and involves a lot of stopping and sniffing, so that is not very beneficial unless he keeps going at a good pace. But you know how dogs are. And it has been so hot here he has not wanted to walk either for the most part, smart dog.

Ha Ha! I've done 15 minutes already this morning. I started out with 5 minutes, could not keep it going more than that at first, and then built up to 10 minutes, I can do 15 minutes fairly easily now but would like to be able to go 30 minutes straight and not break it up to 2 times a day. I'm taking my hoop to the beach, I have 30 minutes to spare every day for that. Well, I'm taking it if I have room in the car for it.

I sell my hoops at the Seaside Farmer's Market on occasion, or I custom make them by request. The ones I sell at the market are approx. 42" and weigh about 2 lb. I make sparkly hoola hoops that are $35 and non-sparkly for $25. I can also make hoops that glow-in-the-dark or under a black light. At the market, I give demonstrations and tips to help people get started and demo hoops to try out before purchasing. I have lots of happy SoWal hoop customers. :D
