I feel sad for people who can't laugh hysterically at Bill Maher's humor!

Though not perfect (he can be sexist at times..) in both politics and religion, he is about the most rational and sensible person on the planet. He is a god in my book!

After much research, discussion with others and analysis of all the information, my take is that-

The TP is really a Republican civil war. It is a group of Republicans who are fed up with Democrats and with the Republicans of late who look nothing like Republicans- fiscally speaking. And to them Obama's policies represent the last straw.

But here is the rub:

The TP (like the very Republicans they take issue with) have lost their way from their core principles: spending, the deficit, taxes, ethics, etc. They have allowed social issues, religion and outright crazy nonsense to creep in. They have allowed creeps from the media and the Republican party to creep in.

And all you're left with are a bunch of people who would have voted republican in the next elections voting republican because it is opposite of Obama. This does nothing to fix the Republican party. And as such, I believe it does nothing to restore honor or reclaim civil rights- let alone fix the country.

And as of this moment, the Walton County Patriots' website continues to leave off the appropriate titles for one of our U. S. senators and the president of the U.S.

I think TPers is a good name for them. It all seems like some childish prank.

My father wanted to have my big sister's honor restored after he found her in the back seat of her boyfriend's Dodge Dart with her knickers down around her ankles. Where was Glenn Back back in 1984?

Back in 1984 he was probably in the backseat of his Dodge Dart convincing some young girl to pull her knickers down around her ankles.

lol

Are there kooks and nuts in the tea party movement? YES
Do they represent the vast majority? NO
Are there people in the tea party movement who have strong views on issues not central to the movement(social issues, religious issues)? YES
Are these issues part of the tea party movement? NO
Is the tea party today adherring to its core principles: less government, less spending, less taxes, more freedom? YES

I will work on policing the tea party and ask the liberals to do the same.

Idlewind,

Let's be fair. I'm not describing the actions of a small few on the fringe of the TP that I hunted down to make an example out of. I'm talking about the mainstream tea party persona perpetuated by the TP itself. Case in point- Beck's religious revival to reclaim civil rights. That was a complete hijack of the solid ideals you describe.

You'll probably say that wasn't a tea party event- it was just a grassroots group of citizens coming together with common beliefs. That's the double edged sword for the tea party- with no leadership or strict adherance to those solid ideals- the Becks and the Palins and Fox News have stepped up as your public face, your leadership along with their agendas.

And now the folks who started with those solid ideals are the fringe and the TP is all the other stuff that only those from the very right can get behind.
