What complimentary thing(s) can you say about the other side?

We all have politicians we disagree with or a political party we think is crazy, and then we have politicians or parties we like. But none of us fit perfectly into a box, even if we self identify as Republican, Democrat, or whatever else we can think of.

A discussion I had today led me to think of this question.

What is something that a politician of an opposing political ideology has done that you would have to agree with?

For me, it's the Head Start program enacted in 1964 by LBJ as a part of his Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. Unfortunately, it does not appear LBJ will ever shed his legacy as the Vietnam president, because his domestic legislative record, both as a Senator and President is practically unmatched. What Head Start did was put education at the forefront of economic advancement, something that Johnson believed in, and I admire. The failures of Head Start have not come from the program itself but the ineffectiveness of the the schools after the child leaves the program. The children who left the program and stayed isolated from their impoverished surroundings showed great promise through their education lives.

I think this is so great because it really promotes education as being the ticket to a better future, both economically, and socially. And if economically disadvantaged children do not receive that education, they will not have the opportunity to improve their lives and get off government assistance.

Right here!
Clinton, welfare reform. It's unfortunate most of his hard work has since been undone by the current administration.

JFK did not suck up to the Saudis,Biden gave Bush credit for the troop surge(something his boss's narcissism gets in the way of doing,Reid shelving the second part of cap and trade(even though it's politically driven because the office he holds is at risk of being lost come November).

How about they aren't always the other side?

It's only the fringes on each end of the spectrum that truly disagree all the time. Most Americans have the same general political views.

Although I despised it at the time since I had over 20 employees, in retrospect, by increasing SS taxes Reagan made the system more solvent.

At the time it was the largest peacetime tax increase in history.

More than Clinton, President Bush Jr. spent more money on AIDS research and assisting Africa and other 3rd world countries in their battle with this disease.
