Don't get the whole Christmas gift thing. Unless, you have children to give to. My family, we are are adults and don't feel the need to give gifts. Got something you want (In our case, kitchen gadgets), go buy it your self and celebrate with food and getting together.

oh nooooo!!! christmas is too stressful anymore.

But, each year I do try to simplify at least the shopping/buying aspect of christmas... and I have made some progress. gotta keep at it...

would love to hear some of your holiday plans, strategy, etc...

We only buy gifts for the immediate family and we try to do useful or unique gifts - food, replacement items, clothes, art etc. You get in trouble if you buy yourself anything starting in October - you are supposed to just wait and put it on your Xmas list.

There are certain presents you get every year (often in the same reused paper or gift bag) - the dogs get tennis balls & bones, I get cold weather items they don't sell in Florida, Scooterbro & Papa Scooterbug get basic clothing (they don't shop for clothes), and Papa and Grandma Scooterbug get food. Scooterbro and I get things the parents have bought while traveling, or stuff they make for us.

Mama Scooterbug buys my gifts by going shopping with me, then taking my selections away at the check-out, and telling me I have to wait another month or so to see them again.

Scooterbro sharpens my skis and then frustrates himself by choosing the most difficult item on my list and shopping for it December 25th.

Creative wrapping to throw people off is HIGHLY encouraged - rocks to weigh things down, multiple boxes, hiding stuff in other people's closets or at the neighbor's house, origami representations or photos of the gift, but the focus is on quality and humor, not quantity and cost.

Big ticket items (over $30) are practical (like the shuttle from the airport to the house, the plane ticket to come home and see the family, a new gun etc).

We need to get rid of stuff, not get more stuff. I don't want anything. Hubby might want something from Home Depot, but he can buy it for himeself because I have no clue when it comes to tools. Mom has Alzheimers and doesn't need more stuff because she won't remember that she got it.

So we are giving each other some token gifts and giving daughter and son-in-law a few things off their registry.

It's really weird -- daughter and son-in-law like to cook and put a lot of All-Clad, Le Creuset, and Wustof on their registry and got that, but didn't get many of her everyday dishes (Great White at Pottery Barn) or flatware. So we'll work on filling some of that out. (We're giving her all of our Meissen, sterling, and Baccarat when she gets at the stage of life where she needs it -- I hate hand-washing all of that stuff -- so she didn't even register for china/sterling/crystal).

So a pretty simple Christmas. I can do all of the shopping online in an hour or so.
