This is nothing new. I remember hearing a newscast on the radio the day after Bill Clinton was elected in 92 and the lead off line was "Now that Bill Clinton has been elected President the economy has begun improving". Then they proceeded to give the September economic numbers which had just come out.

I guess you could argue hedging your bet, both then and now. Based on the current economic climate I'd say Vegas seems to be the American mentality.

Obama saved Capitalism...and look at the thanks he gets...

How Obama Saved Capitalism and Lost the Midterms - NYTimes.com
Suppose you had $100,000 to invest on the day Barack Obama was inaugurated. Why bet on a liberal Democrat? Here?s why: the presidency of George W. Bush produced the worst stock market decline of any president in history. The net worth of American households collapsed as Bush slipped away. And if you needed a loan to buy a house or stay in business, private sector borrowing was dead when he handed over power.

As of election day, Nov. 2, 2010, your $100,000 was worth about $177,000 if invested strictly in the NASDAQ average for the entirety of the Obama administration, and $148,000 if bet on the Standard & Poors 500 major companies. This works out to returns of 77 percent and 48 percent.

I think immediate gratification and living in the moment with little or no regard for the future equates pretty well with a 'Vegas' mentality and sums it up well.

This couldn't have been caused by the financial collapse of '07 that happened during a Republican administration? "Man-up" is the new catch-phrase (Thanks to Sarah) and I think you should do just that and admit that the current adminstration is trying get the car-bus out of the ditch that the neo-cons got us into.

Didn't mean to sound snarky. There seems to be a lot of reconcilliation going on on other forums. I'm sure you can post any number of charts that all show the financial situation going down since the beginning of '09. Absolutely none of Obama's policies would have a chance to show much impact (one way or the other) in the midst of a financial collapse of this magnitude. If any of you conservatives could show a little patriotism and admit that our president is listening to the best advisors he can muster, and attempting to implement the most good for the country in general, it would be appreciated. There's no hidden socialist agenda, really.

The downturn was beyond Obama's control. I'm not fan though of some of the solutions they came up with or some of the people they put in charge of solving the problem. I also think side lining the entire congress for over year on heathcare reform instead of concentrating on the economy is worthy of being critcized.

Again, time will tell. Perhaps Americans will be even more productive once they aren't sweating ridiculous insurance hikes to not cover things they are ailing from, or the fear of a hospital stay wiping out their entire life's savings.
