I dislike this commercial so much that after over 30 years of driving Toyotas and Hondas, I doubt that I will even want to look at Toyotas when it comes time to trade vehicles.
The commercial basically uses the marketing technique that kids should be embarrassed/ ashamed if their parents' cars are older and without all the gadgets - "lame".
YouTube - Scatter Extended Version -- Toyota Highlander!

I have a feeling there are a lot of Toyota owners who love their vehicles precisely because they run forever with little maintenance needed and proudly brag about how many miles they've gotten out of their rides.

Toyota ...... your marketing sucks!

The little brat deserves to spend his remaining years until adulthood being driven around in a vintage AMC Gremlin that only has an AM radio and 8 track tape deck as entertainment alternatives.

And it's not just us. There's page after page of negative commentary at TWOP on the kid and the ad series.

They definitely missed the mark, been a while since I wanted to smack the smart ass out of a child.

That commercial could have been reworked into a "gee I wish my parents cared about my safety and security" by buying a Toyota, but they went the spoiled brat route. While me and my sister were allowed to come along when the family purchased a new vehicle we were completely ignored as to our choice of vehicle.

Sadly there is a segment of society these commerials will appeal to, probably those that later will be hosting the 16th birthday extravganza.

You know, this commercial kind of irks me too. Sometimes I'm embarrassed about my car. It's big, old, outdated and still has factory radio in it. Whenever me and the girls go somewhere, we are in the only car because every other mom with kids has an SUV or a mini van or some other 'cool' new ride. Jackie tells me she wants a car with a sliding door. I would love to have something new and cool, but the fact is we can't afford it. Even though all we have is paid for, it's still hard to make ends meet. So until my old uncool car decides to die, it's what i'll drive. Besides, a new car would take a beating from us between living on a dirt road and trips to the beach.

I noticed that too. Didn't like the ad, the message. But also realize that 99% of marketing is not targeted to me at all. Nor the politicians, movies, tv, etc. Ellen

SSB, what's wrong with factory radio? I happen to like mine , and is it not great to have a car that's paid for? I'm just to old to give a damn who has a new car.

If it runs and is paid for, it's a damn good car IMO.

I used to babysit for little brats like that. Disciplining them can be too funn sometimes. ;-)

Actually, my factory stereo is kick-ass, but the cassette player doesn't work anymore. and even if it did, i don't have any to play in it.
It's very nice to not have any payments and I'm not complaining so much as feeling a little envious of my peers who all drive cool, new, efficient cars. It's all good. even with pounds of sand on the floor.
