New poll undercuts GOP claims of a midterm mandate | McClatchy
A majority of Americans want the Congress to keep the new health care law or actually expand it, despite Republican claims that they have a mandate from the people to kill it, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll.

The post-election survey showed that 51 percent of registered voters want to keep the law or change it to do more, while 44 percent want to change it to do less or repeal it altogether.
"The political give and take is very different than public opinion," said Lee M. Miringoff, the director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., which conducted the poll. "On health care, there is a wide gap between public opinion and the political community."

Noone has a clue whats in this bill so cares much about this poll. Existing premiums have risen nearly 30% for those who already have insurance. This plan wasnt to lower costs, it was to have full government control of the health system. Once this bill goes in effect in 2012 people will no doubt run for cover. Ill say it now, "I told you so".

I think Healthcare Reform is now, or will become, settled law. It may need just minor tweeking, as with any major legislation passed. The Republican undertaker, Mitch McConnell, can huff and puff with his blustering antics to try repeal Healthcare Reform, but he will fail.

Once again, the Republicans are totally misreading this election....it is the economy stupid. Move on......

Aren't we diplomatic...

Minor Tweeking? This bill does absolutely nothing to lower health care costs. It just makes people like me pay for those who dont have it. And Im far from rich. Thats socialism and its never worked nor will it now. But, you seam to be ok with it considering your quote from Lawrence O'Donnell. Yea, he's just riddled with facts[laughing].

Is this the first year your insurance premiums increased?

People in the field have gleaned it. If you want bipartisan information, follow the Kaiser Family Foundation Kaiser Health Reform Gateway: Health Care Reform and Health Insurance Reform Analysis, Data and Information to capture a better idea of what?s in the bill and when things come into play. Good nonpartisan site to keep around if you really care. Here's a video that simplifies some details:

No. But never has it risen this much. And its rising for every exisiting policy holder. And we as a company may face dropping everyone due to this. And this will happen all across the small business spectrum.

Lets not forget that this plan was supposed to lower costs, not initiate a government run system. Well, some of us knew this was the plan the whole time, but our media didnt feel like educating the folks out of not offending the almighty barack

Cute in all, but one just needs to read into it to see the little specifics available to us. Who would have thought that in a free america a bill would pass that noone even read or knew about. Gotta love our modern liberal party hanging under the democratic sign

Then you were lucky. Many many company and people got ridiculous increases every year, usually with a cut in benefits to keep the increases from being too high.

I have said it before, at least this year there are some very important additions and improvements, so if you get a small increase, you are at least getting additional benefits. You don't want government run healthcare, yet it is OK for the insurance companies to screw you every year?

I approach most polls very skeptically. Its pretty easy to structure one to get results to match one's agenda (and in my experience most polls are structured to match agendas.)

I also totally missed the question where they ask people about having the IRS involved in their healthcare.

Funny how that got left out.
