Yes, I realize I actually want to know the truth about the banking crisis and the oil spill, and I'd like to know about the ufo's while we are at it, but that does not mean that I think an American solider or diplomat should lose their life over the spilling of gov, secrets. How the private sector uses our fellow citizens is a whole different story. There is what the news tells us and then there is the truth. I prefer the truth if possible.

But, I also feel that there is a lot of money behind shutting this thing down. A lot of money that doesn't want the peasants like us to really know the score.;-)

This is the story of this era. I completely know what you mean about wanting to know "selected parts of the truth", but the reality is that United States Foreign Policy, in all it's grandeur and it's manure, is what affects the world community, possibly much more than it affects us. We have to know, and take responsibility, for quite a lot of the sh*t that is hitting the fan.

We were not fooling anyone as a few politicians and diplomats have had the courage to say. Iran didn't trust us before... here's a link to some of those reactions across the globe from other countries.

A breakdown of the 251,287 diplomatic cables and their potential fallout | The Washington Post

Iraq has hurt us diplomatically at least as much as these leaks in the mid east. Our country went to war over false evidence that had nothing to do with terrorism. We've been in Afghanistan longer than Russia, now. "Oh what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive."

That means we're better and beat communism right?

If we had built the infrastructure like Wilson wanted to, we would not be fighting there today. Others said it was too expensive. Turns out not as expensive as war.;-)

Here Hear A. Leo... to ALL your comments.

Having said that... Afghanistan has (at minimum) a 120 year history of successfully proven commitment against foreign invaders/occupation (other than Taliban). Afghanis are a warrior people to be understood through THEIR honor... not pitied as weak 3rd Worldians as we Americans have a tendency to view everyone other than ourselves. At THIS POINT, we're SAPS if we keep our folks stationed there for a minute longer. I say Let's Bring our Folks HOME already.

To Lakeview Too: I SO hear ya!
I don't really understand the 'racist' accusations showing up on this thread...

nor do I really get your OWN fat-white-men deal... 'cuz I've personally experienced plenty of gym-slim white & otherwise bankster/politrickster criminals... so I chalk this up to mere descriptives of YOUR fury... while my similar fury is broader and more racially and 'spacially' inclusive.

How WikiLeaks Just Set Back Democracy in Zimbabwe

Interesting collateral damage in Zimbabwe from the wikileaks release. The Atlantic has the story here.

Like most of the damage that will be done by the leak, it has nothing to do with any 'bad' activities by the US.

Last year, early on Christmas Eve morning, representatives from the U.S., United Kingdom, Netherlands, and the European Union arrived for a meeting with Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
....
The topic of the meeting was the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by a collection of western countries, including the U.S. and E.U. Tsvangirai told the western officials that, while there had been some progress in the last year, Mugabe and his supporters were dragging their feet on delivering political reforms.
....
Later that day, the U.S. embassy in Zimbabwe dutifully reported the details of the meeting to Washington in a confidential U.S. State Department diplomatic cable. And slightly less than one year later, WikiLeaks released it to the world.
....
The reaction in Zimbabwe was swift. Zimbabwe's Mugabe-appointed attorney general announced he was investigating the Prime Minister on treason charges based exclusively on the contents of the leaked cable. While it's unlikely Tsvangirai could be convicted on the contents of the cable alone, the political damage has already been done. The cable provides Mugabe the opportunity to portray Tsvangirai as an agent of foreign governments working against the people of Zimbabwe. Furthermore, it could provide Mugabe with the pretense to abandon the coalition government that allowed Tsvangirai to become prime minister in 2009.

Its pretty clear that Wikileaks has nothing to do with journalism. They exist solely to expose secrets with no analysis and no regard for the impact of their actions.

Are you being sarcastic? That descriptive sounds exactly like much of the 'journalism' that's out there.

I don't know or care if it's jounalism, but it's definitely the media. It's information transfer. If information is quickly verifiable or falsifiable, that's all most of us need. Most of us want an accurate picture of reality, and if the messenger has less than noble intent, so be it. The Internet genie isn't going back in the bottle anytime soon.
