Why don't we just pass a local ordinance requiring everyone to ride a bicycle? I mean really, why stop at 35 MPH speed limits?

I say golf carts should be given control of bike paths. We then add a small strip along the side of the path at minimal cost for bikes funded by a local green tax levied on all property owners along 30A, starting with Geo and Scooterbug.

Shopper. please get some experience riding on the bike path before making such a statement. The path is 2 way for bicycles, and that's pushing it. You've got driveways and entrances with cars driving in and out. Your idea is a sure recipe for disaster. I think you must be pulling our leg.

Yes, somewhat in jest. But really I don't think this is that big of a deal. I live in Sandestin currently, we have golf carts everywhere mixed with cars and trucks and everything else. We have golf cart paths mixed with bike paths mixed with regular roads. There are very few problems. 30A is more unique in that it's a highway, but we could easily accommodate all four methods of transportation (cars, carts, bikes, and walking) with little effort assuming locals in the area are willing to sacrifice a little pocket change to fund the infrastructure. (hint hint, nudge nudge.) 30A is unique, it should accommodate all modes of travel, especially those that are more environmentally sound than the gas engine, wouldn't you agree?

Didn't Peachtree City, GA amend the law for golf carts only?

How should I know? Why should I care?

Just as ridonkulous to say that ambulances wouldn't be able to get through during an emergency.

You can't say LSV's should be banned due to safety concerns when in fact lsv use is more likely to increase safety.

I didn't say that. Ambulances weren't on my "reasons it makes no sense to lower a speed limit on a rural county highway so a few people can drive their golf carts" list

You think I should pay to build infrastructure for golf carts along a rural county road because I don't support lowering the speed limit on said rural road?

How bout just make the golf carts go faster at the expense and safety of the owners who want to drive them?

You suggested something in a facetious manner and I'm pointing out that it has become law elsewhere and is a possibility for 30A. If you don't understand the relevance move on.

It isn't relevant that a town in GA legalized golfcarts everywhere. If we were discussing whether or not we should allow camping on the public beaches along 30A how solid/relevant would my argument be that some crappy beach in Texas moved to allow it?

Andrew, I did catch up before I posted. I think you are confused. Go to Post 59 (yours) and read. You directly quoted ME and rather than refuting my points you refuted the safety ambulance argument- which I did not make.

I would like to offer my 2 cents.....I am a relative newcomer to the area. Been vacationing here for over 10 years but recently relocated here and I love it. So I am not quite a local yet but working on it. "In a hurry to relax" was a great quote. I bought myself a scooter when we got down here, and although my top speed is 42 mph, I usually go about 35 mph, and I sometimes feel like people would love to run right over me. I hate to say it, but everyone is in a hurry, and I have been known to feel the same way when I am stuck behind a bicyclist, but I also know that since I have used my 100 mile per gallon scooter, I have enjoyed the scenery the outdoors and saving gas.....And on more than one occasion a thumbs up and a smile from a local or tourist. So if we can all just share the road that would be great. One other thing what is it about leaving the car running when you go in the store? I was at the Modica the other day, and having a bite at one of the tables and more than one car stopped/parked. left the car on and went inside? Is this a Florida thing? I don't get it.....
Have a great day!
