NBC did a piece on it tonight with a live report from Rockhampton. Latest from Jan is that they are all safe. The station (farm) is on high ground so it is not flooded but the rain has spoiled the crops...all her family has been evacuated and for the moment, everything is ok. Water is forecast to continue to rise for two more days. Worst flooding in 100 years...she said the authorities there say...

here's a link to the local paper: http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/...es-for-more-rain/story-e6freon6-1225981280955

thanks a lot. Just heard from Jan tonight. (first word in several days) They are doing okay...one of her son's house is completely surrounded by water but so far, not into the house...they are cautious, but hopeful that the worst is past for them. It will take years for the area to recover though and crops have been devastated, which is going to be a real hardship for their livelihood.
So many of their friends and neighbors have lost homes, animals, everything...and many have lost their lives, so she is thankful that their situation is not as bad as it might be.
She said it helps to know so many people are keeping them in thoughts and prayers.

thank you. I thought that too; it looks as though the Aussies are doing a better job caring for their citizens though...
