It appears so...but humor can be an elusive thing... I've been trying to tell people about Randall Bramblett's excellent new album called "Devil Music", and nobody believes me... about what a real deal, authentic gumbo of wry lyrics, great rhythms, and blues like a soul who has lived it, kind of album it is... because they can't get over the title. And the title is all about a joke!, a fable about when Howling Wolf went to visit his Mama, after hittin' it big, and his Mama called it "Devil Music".... From my fifties years of study it, it is not devil music. Is this humor or irony? Am I on the right thread?

Wolf's mother was a real piece of work. She threw him out of the house when he was still a cub, forcing him to hike barefoot over frozen ground to his great uncle Will Young's house many miles away. Turns out it was your classic frying pan/fire scenario as Young was no picnic either... he was once described as 'the meanest man between here and hell.'
At the height of his success Wolf tried to reconcile with his mother. Offering her money, she took the cash and stamped it into the ground. She didn't want anything to do with his 'Devil music.' Lovely…
