In my opinion
Leaders are judged on what they do and say. If a leader can't keep people or denies responsibility or assigns blame to someone else, then there is an issue. Depending on the level of the leader in the organization, will depend on that persons level of responsibility. When you deny there is an issue or attribute blame to someone else you have lost the battle. Me as a follower, wants to know what we are up against and how we are going to handle the situation. That doesn't mean a leader can't use assets that are experts in the field to deliver the message and still recieve the kudos for the successes. That doesn't mean he doesn't have his DNA all over the successes. Craig Fugate, was a former FEMA Director and Head of Florida Emergency Management. This guy was a "Rock Star" in my opinion, when he managed Florida's Statewide Emergencies. He made Governors look good and the State look efficient during emergencies. I am going to bet he didn't do it alone. I am going to bet he had folks outside of the State Government assisting and making things work. Other than some who may have recognized who he was, the Politician who got the accolades in the work that Craig Fugate did, was the Governor. Leaders can lead but use those experts to deliver a message on addressing the issue. Part of leadership is delegating those important jobs that helps brings back normalcy to the State or the Nation. That leader will either be a Hero or a Goat depending on how he leads and more importantly how he delegates.
