On Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 5PM, the public is invited to join the inaugural first ride on the SoWal Subway, originating in Inlet Beach at the intersection of Scenic Hwy 30A and US Hwy 98. Tilly the Sea Turtle will start the train with a ceremonial "pushing of the button" to start the journey westward along the beach with stops in Rosemary Beach, WaterSound Beach, Seagrove, Seaside, WaterColor, and Grayton Beach.

The next phase of tunneling will continue the SoWal Subway line west toward Miramar Beach, and will begin just after Labor Day. A northern spur is planned for 2028 to Freeport and DeFuniak Springs.

The SoWal Subway is completely funded by the South Walton Council of Tourist Development additional .05% bed tax. Entry to the SoWal Subway is free to the public. Exit at any stop is $50 per person.
