The point is, that both of these particular States have a very liberal carry law. There are those that say we are safer with more who carry but seems there are not near as many citizens who stop the bad guy as LEOs who do and I would venture to guess there are fewer LEO'S than those who have or can carry legally. So unless there isnsome data that can show how much safer we are, sounds more like BS.
Bob, I respect where you are coming from. I think you actually want to get to a solution.

Without going to deep, have you ever shot a gun? If so have you ever practiced to the point where you would feel comfortable carrying it in public (because that is a big jump)?

Either way, lets just assume the answer is yes you carry are able to and want to carry a gun in public. Now assuming you do not mean to hurt anyone, are the people around you safer, less safe, or equally as safe as if you did not have a gun?

If someone bad were trying to hurt people would you be able to pull your gun and do what should be done? This is also a big jump for many people.

I hope you take the time to answer

Very simple answer, enforce the 2A as written or repeal it.
Also tax the crap out of ammunition and require high liability insurance for every gun.
OK lets say we do everything you say here
How would any of that have stopped this shooting?
When you say every gun, do you mean every gun owned by a law abiding citizen? Do you think criminals are going to follow rules?

I'll put this out generally because I don't think any of you can answer it

Lets assume tomorrow by some magic there are no guns in America

Now what? Do you think people that want to kill people are going to stop?

Do you think the evil in humans left with the guns?

What will you ban next? fertilizer? cars? knives? sticks? flags? chairs?

Lets not even go into what happens every single time a populace is disarmed, lets just keep it right on the surface

Second Amendment, amendment to the Constitution of the United States, adopted in 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights, that provided a constitutional check on congressional power under Article I Section 8 to organize, arm, and discipline the federal militia. The Second Amendment reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Referred to in modern times as an individual’s right to carry and use arms for self-defense, the Second Amendment was envisioned by the framers of the Constitution, according to College of William and Mary law professor and future U.S. District Court judge St. George Tucker in 1803 in his great work Blackstone’s Commentaries: With Notes of Reference to the Constitution and Laws of the Federal Government of the United States and of the Commonwealth of Virginia, as the “true palladium of liberty.” In addition to checking federal power, the Second Amendment also provided state governments with what Luther Martin (1744/48–1826) described as the “last coup de grace” that would enable the states “to thwart and oppose the general government.” Last, it enshrined the ancient Florentine and Roman constitutional principle of civil and military virtue by making every citizen a soldier and every soldier a citizen.

Those are legitimate questions. I have shot a gun. I have not practiced enough to be proficient. Your question about proficiency, leads me to question, are a majority that do carry not proficient?

So you oppose Red Flag laws? What about felons owning and carrying, laws prevent that? Those words that say "shall not be infringed" is that for all or do younsupport some instances? There are plenty of places that your right to carry aren infringed upon. In your years how many times have you had the need to pull and shoot? Times change, some I like some I don't.

Your question is a good one but I would look at it a different way
There is a hinge point with all weapons

Having a weapon in your home increases the chances of getting shot but knowing how to handle, store, clean, and care for a weapon makes these chances almost impossible

Same goes for carrying a weapon in public
If you are going to carry then you should practice using them religiously
If you are not 100% sure you can handle yourself and that weapon you should not have it around others because it is more of a liability then an asset

In the hands of someone that knows how, when, why, ect to use it a gun is a valuable tool capable of helping those in need.
As far as the percentage that carry that 'should' this is a tough one. I would guess maybe 10-15% of our population has the skillset to carry in public, this number includes LEO and military but thats just my guess.

Just to ask again then under a different premise. If someone you knew carried in public how would you feel around them, safer, not as safe, equally as safe as if they didn't have a weapon?
