New Freeport Middle School At Hammock Bay

The new school, at a projected cost of $27mil, is well underway and scheduled to open next year. It is on a 30 acre parcel donated in 2013, next to the Freeport Regional Sports Complex in Hammock Bay.

The current school is north of Hwy 20, off of Madison St (Business 331) at 360 Kylea Laird Drive, Freeport, FL 32439

It doesn't bother me, but how does this work with a serving brewery within 1,000 feet. Pretty sure that violates the comp plan.

They changed the law at the State Level. I thought Brad Drake was the mover on it.

Freeport currently has an elementary school and a high school. The middle school has been held at the former Freeport High School on Kylea Laird; now they will have a new school. Remember the school is not for Hammock Bay exclusively but for all middle schoolers in and around Freeport.

Do you know if Hammock Bay donated land for other new schools? Just wondering about future expansion as Freeport grows and needs another High school and/or elementary.

IIRC that was the only land donated for educational purposes. Freeport high has plenty of room to expand and if needed the school board would likely build another elementary school east of 331.

I assume there will be east and west schools for each level eventually. Perhaps north and south also. Eglin, the river, and the bay are the only things stopping Freeport. Or more accurately, the Freeport-DeFuniak Springs Metro Area.
