we need another one of these random thoughts threads - so here it its, all about my good day yesterday.....

- i woke up and discovered my tax refund had been posted to my savings account - woo hoo....even tho it will only be there until my credit card bills roll in next month, it looks good for the time being.

- my nephew loved the clothes "my uncle bought me" - hey kid , your uncle only carried them thru the store, i did everything else  for some reason he is obsessed with mr audie...

- as some of you know i couldn't find the check i made out for mr audie's car payment, i had made it out but didn't have the statement yet, so laid it in the bill box (i thought) well, it disappeared, and i was convinced i had put it in with another bill by accident so was just waiting for it to get mailed back to me hopefully. yesterday, i discovered that in all the trips in and out the back door mr audie has been making working on his tv antenna connections outside, it must have blowed the check out of the box and under his chair because that's where i found the check :clap_1:

- and lastly, mr audie and i went for a drive in the car yesterday (alas he wouldn't let me put the top down), and we ended up at the outback and he paid for supper - with his own money !!!!!:clap_1: :clap_1: we got home and he let me go to bed at 9 pm with no fussing - it was a good day !!!!

Good choice.

Once done, you need to put that "extra" money away in savings or use it to pay down credit monthly to keep interest rates from eating up any more of your money....keeping in mind that it doesn't make much sense to keep money in a savings account @ 4.5% in interest when you're carrying debt and paying 18% to the credit company. Best of luck.

It's good advice Shelly, but if it were let's say my SIL, she would be too tempted to spend the money, and still have the accumlulated debt at the end of the year. I rather see her take less in her paycheck and then p/o credit card at the end of year.

I give kudos to Audie for p/o the card, because some people would be tempted to take a vacation, or spend it differently.

I agree...but only as a temporary emergency measure. Long-term I think Audie will benefit if she explores the alternatives to letting Uncle Sam use her money for free (especially now while savings interest rates are high and credit card interest rates are going higher).

That type of "plan" for savings and spending just won't work long-term for today's young people who need to take active control of their finances for a secure retirement.

I really don't know how Mr. JR does it but I swear he has it figured out to where we only have to pay a small handful, literally, of change each year. Sometimes we get a small handful of change back. I always wanted to get $$ back but he's pretty square and won't go that route. Boring, boring, boring.

I bet your SIL's retirement plan includes hitting up her siblings for a loan or a pull-out sofa to crash on in her old age too.

A properly set-up version of Money or Quicken will do the trick.

Ok - I just read this thread ever so quickly and just wanted to make a couple of comments:

1) Audie, I really enjoyed talking to you last night too. It was the highlight of my weekend! I need to do that more often!!!! And I can't wait for April and going real live Sowalling with you (among others!)

2) Allifunn - I'm so glad you're down there and hope you have a wonderful time!

3) Johnrudy - yes it was beautiful today. But now I'm spending the rest of the night tearing my upstairs apart. Wood is getting delivered tomorrow and they start the floors on Friday.

4) I get a tax refund every year too. If I tried to just save the money on my own I wouldn't even notice it and I like the windfall. I know the government is using my money for free but I don't care. Oh well - to each his own, right?

Ok, gotta get to work but I'll catch y'all later!!!!!

Not scary at all. Honestly, it's really nice. I am still amazed by the friendships that are evolving because of this board. I'd have never thunk it was possible when I started lurking around here a few years ago.

And for all you doubters out there, my tax refunds for the last several years are funding my 5 year old daughter's college education. It'll take 5 years of refunds in total, but I think it's a darn good investment and pretty much painless.
