THERE WAS A FAMILY THERE FROM NEW ORLEANS WHO EVACUATED AND LOST EVERYTHING WHO WERE FORCED TO LEAVE THE CAMPGROUND TO MAKE ROOM FOR THIS TRASH.
Are you referring to the people as TRASH? God, I hope not. If you are, I hope your family never suffers as these people have!!!!
BTW, just found out that these poor-old twits get 2k each for being evacuated.
I understand your frustration, but I sure do think you could find a nicer way to voice your concerns. These people are not TRASH or TWITS, they are people who have lost EVERYTHING IN THEIR LIVES. You are very lucky to have a primary home and VACATION home, these people have NOTHING!!!!!!!

Are you referring to the people as TRASH?
Hell Yeah!
They don't have nothing! (pseudo-quote)
Neither did we after IVAN! Remember? We didn't evict old people so we could move in. NOT IN MY BACKYARD!!!

I am a "southerner," but you wont find a "rebel" when I get scratched. AB, chill out. I don't know where you get your perspective of this tragedy, but I encourage you to open your heart and mind, and seek to understand. I know you are inconvenienced by the situation. It sounds like you are equating your situation after Ivan to this situation of the people of NOLA after Katrina. That is not fair. If you were not in NOLA, I don't think you can have a true understanding of what these people are going through, even if your home was destroyed by Ivan.
FYI- they don't play football in the Astrodome. It has not been used for sporting events for several years.
IMHO, State Parks should not be used as a year-round residence, especially for a long number of years. I am surpized that the State actually allows you to do that.
EDIT: Okay, I do hear that they use the parking lot for the football fans' parking for the games. I stand corrected.

He is being evicted from State Property. He has a camper there. It is not a primary residence. People being brought in have no home at all. Also, they have, maybe only temporarily, lost their city, friends, and family. I really don't feel that AB's bad day is on the same scale as the bad days and months, perhaps even years, as the people moving in to the State Parks.
AB, I think many people on this Board respect your opinions. I do. However, I am not going to let that stand in the way of waking you up. Shame on you. I still love you, Brotha, but shame on you.

My grandparents used to have a camper parked on Lake Martin. Those were simple times. I remember having a blast there as a kid. They had no money but they found a way to enjoy themselves in that ugly box by the lake.
On another note, are they building tent cities for any of the stormies fleeing New Orleans? It seems to me that if the gubment bought a large piece of property, they could build a tent city that would house every one of these people. Not to mention, they could have some friggin family privacy.
I just don't understand why they keep cramming people into a building (astro dome) that wasn't designed to handle that many people. With a tent city, they could build septic systems, make the people somewhat comfortable, and they could stay as long as they needed.
And I'm almost certain it would cost a fraction of what it will cost to clean and repair the dome once everyone leaves.
Any thoughts?

"Taking refuge" is correct.
Speaking of taking refuge, I just noticed the new avatar. Cool, but I was wondering, did you have to duck after the shot?

Yes, and a person "taking refuge" might sometimes be called a "refugee". My point is, getting upset about this is taking PC a little too far.

MB, I bet if you go back a year from now, and read your posts about this, you will see what we see when we read them. It looks bad. I am sorry that some of the permanent residents at your park have been moved. They should have been the exception, if they did choose to stay. But you must realize that there is no easy answer here, and no matter what, people are going to be inconvenienced.
The communities in Texas have received - by FAR - the majority of these evacuees. Who do you think is sacrificing to make room for them? Do you even realize what is involved in accepting hundreds of thousands of people (many of whom are welfare recipients) into communities who are already straining under costs of living burdens, unemployment rates, and housing bubbles? Do you hear any Texans complaining? Suck it up man! We must rise to the occasion.
While I am ranting, I will display my irritation with people who leave their campers at the campgrounds year-round as vacation homes. We are big time campers, and there is nothing more irking than having to settle for shabby campsites, because all of the best ones on the water have been taken up by selfish people who aren't ever even there to enjoy them.

I am not upset, just trying to use this mucked up English language correctly when trying to. I often knowingly, and unknowingly, stray.

You go girl....although Texas isn't the only state opening their arms to the evacuees, we certainly have seen the most come here initially. I have not read one negative comment in the paper here...only stories of schools, churches and individuals welcoming them and trying to help. No one knows the long term implications yet...there really hasn't been time for too much thinking ahead when you have people in such dire need. I am proud of my state.
AB, I hope you take the time to reread your initial statement and the concerns your fellow posters have had with it. Look at the BIG picture and be a BIG person about this situation. I, for one, hope for a civil reply.

NPR had a good program the other day about how the disaster presents a window of opportunity for repairing not only the physical aspects of the city of New Orleans (levees, increasing elevations where possible, etc), but also to repair the social fabric, i.e.., poverty, corruption, and other social problems that are now exposed...How about using all the money spent to fund NPR to actually help people.
However, New Orleans is so unique, it is terrible to think of all of the people who have been forced to leave the city, no matter what their circumstances...

Got back this AM with the first load o stuff (boat, etc) from our 'vacation home' at the state park (a nice 'house' in a nice place - cheap rent, utilities included, and no property tax!). It was a madhouse. Some of the old folks have lived there for years, it is their permanent address, and are unable to hardly walk much less move, but they are being towed somewhere, I dont know where. Others have their 'vacation homes' there too, apparently couldn't be contacted and they are just being towed, again I dont know where, leaving all their stuff, even freezers, just laying there. They were being evicted! THERE WAS A FAMILY THERE FROM NEW ORLEANS WHO EVACUATED AND LOST EVERYTHING WHO WERE FORCED TO LEAVE THE CAMPGROUND TO MAKE ROOM FOR THIS TRASH. The ones that are coming are supposedly from the superdome, the ones they moved to the astrodome and they are now moving again because of bloody football starting and they didnt want them either. Oh, and I said I'd just rent them my camper and I was told they have to stay in fema-owned campers as that's the law and they all have to be the same size and color (so that nobody gets jealous and kill each other or something?). Sounds like animals.
BTW, just found out that these poor-old twits get 2k each for being evacuated. We evacuated Ivan, lost it all, and didn't get a dime, providing they sign docs saying they wont sue the govt - sounds like payoffs to 9-11 victims, dont it.
I'm embarassed for you, AB. I've re-read your posts twice in an attempt to convince myself that I was misinterpreting what you were saying. My God, these poor people have been through so much. But for the grace of God, this could have been any one of us! To call them "trash", "twits" and become outraged because they're getting a mere 2K to hopefully keep them and their childred from starving...are you really serious? I hope not! I assisted in Ivan clean-up efforts last year and expect to head out in a few weeks or so to help with Katrina clean-up. I wish you could look directly into the frightened faces of these folks who went from having very little to now having absolutely nothing....until you've seen the pain in their eyes as they stand in line for hours with their babies waiting for food, water and other life sustaining necessities....if you have any heart at all, you would choke on the words you used to describe these human beings. They've lost EVERYTHING! All you have to worry about is moving your camper "vacation home" to make room for your fellow human beings who have to depend on others for their next meal and don't even have much of a say in where they will lay their heads tonight!
Besides...I don't believe state parks were ever meant to be used as "permanent residence"!
I'm sad for you AB.....I've always thought you came across as an intelligent person, and I certainly hope that the thoughts you expressed were misinterpreted.

Is it me, or does aquaticbiology seem oblivious to the wrong in his postings, to others? Though I'm new to this board, I agree with you, luvthebeach. I see NO sign of intelligence, nor remorse, thus far, from aquaticbiology! :nono1: :nono1: :nono1:
