This is fun for you? I'm not laughing, nor are those "EVACUEES" and their familes, which are suffering from Katrina!

Just having some fun with Diane.

Why, yes, I typically find posting on this site to be quite fun.

I'll tell you what. I'll give you the last word here. You go ahead and say whatever you want and I won't respond anymore.

Last word or not, it seems you and AquaticBiology haven't realized the seriousness, with the Katrina Disaster! I can see how this board can be a blast, BUT NOT AT THE EXPENSE, OF THOSE SUFFERING!

SueShore,

Guess we don't get a civil reply, huh? I'm thankful that there are others like myself, that were shocked and saddened, at the lack of compassion and humanity :( :( :( ! This is a good time to use the phrase, which I'd always used when my kids were growing up and in difficult situations, with others. "FORGIVE THEM, FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO"! Somehow it's harder to swallow, when it's an adult with all of the comforts!

You go girl....although Texas isn't the only state opening their arms to the evacuees, we certainly have seen the most come here initially. I have not read one negative comment in the paper here...only stories of schools, churches and individuals welcoming them and trying to help. No one knows the long term implications yet...there really hasn't been time for too much thinking ahead when you have people in such dire need. I am proud of my state.

AB, I hope you take the time to reread your initial statement and the concerns your fellow posters have had with it. Look at the BIG picture and be a BIG person about this situation. I, for one, hope for a civil reply.

Thank you Diane...I try and subscribe to your wise words daily, although it can be hard. I truly hope to hear back from AB....although it seems he has posted and completely missed all the points brought up and the pleas for him to apologize. What a shame to lose such a valued member of this board.

Farse? Even if that is true, such a horrible "trick" to play at this time.

OK, another day, another return to God's Country (Mississippi) from what used to be a nice state of bliss called Alabama, this time dragging the camper, and the last trip Thank God.

Now that things are settled down, I finally had a chance to read the thread (wow!) and I guess its time for a few clarifications and that long-awaited chance to respond (didn't whomever notice that I was gone to get the thing and couldn't respond - Jeez!):

1) My 'vacation home' is a camper. Super nice, cheap land you rent not buy incase something goes horribly wrong (experience), utilities are included and it's on wheels if Earl from Gulf Trace or the Hell's Angels move in next door (experience with the latter). I even get to use FHA and deduct the interest since it is my 'vacation home'.

2) My 'vacation home' is now set up in a really nice Mizippi State Park where there are a lot of refugees living in all sorts of campers, not just the standardized white fema ones from Dutchmen, which, by Alabama Law, they have to occupy.

3) One of the said 'refugee' families is now living rent free in MY camper, something I could not do, by Alabama Law.

4) The said familiy of four (good ole white trash ma and pa and two screaming drooling brats - guess the toxic waste got to them) has nothing, just as we didn't have anything when my family moved north after Ivan. We didn't even try to get on food stamps or any programs, we just remade our lives as the family in my 'vacation home' is doing. The parents are alternating taking care of their young chidlren while each looks for work. They have no criminal record. (D*** right, I checked! And made them sign all docs, everything from anti-tort to the dreaded 'cops come just once and you're out' before turning them loose into my fully-insured baby!)

5) The Gov of Alabama is CHARGING FULL RENT for each of the camper spaces in the Alabama State Park System, along with demanding sewer upgrades, from fema. Mizippi dosen't charge anything of anybody and generously opened it doors and said come on in.

6) The Gov of Alabama gave Federal Employees the authority to come into Public Land in a State Facility and evict (including the cutting off of locks) everyone, including senior citizens (discounted rate) who had their 'primary home' there, so they could replace them with full-price 'refugees' and get an added bonus of completing the sewer hookups to all the campsites, something the state of alabama would not spend the money for themselves. The Alabama State Park System was nearly broke but now has a sizeable cash reserve.

7) I called the Gov of Alabama a 'ssseigelman' but he's really a 'rrriley' - shows how much I pay attention to poloitics. He dosen't sign my checks so I really don't care. He just takes my taxes and buys stuff that get's him investigated (and one of his predecessors removed from office for the same thing). Where's Big Jim Folsom when you need him? Uncontrollable greed holds the reins in Montgomery. BTW, there's no gambling in Alabama, except in Wetumpka, right above Montgomery, where Harrah's is opening in 2006! See their web page for more details if you don't believe me.

OK, enough trashing Alabama seeing as their government is doing it just fine on their own.

In response:

TRASH - yes, Virginia, some folks out there, of any color, are indeed 'trash'. I come from a long line of white trash (at least I was called that repeatedly). Just cause I had a car up on blocks in the yard and still have stacks of potentially useful but corroded items we brought with us when we were refugees from Ivan. I'll have you know that the car on blocks was an Opal GT and I was working on landfilling the huge crevice in the back yard, I just had to fill it up first with junk, that's all. All that's gone now anyway as my parents are long gone and my siblings have scattered and I have officially moved to Mizippi.

Why do you have an empty camper sitting in a State Park to begin with? - Best 'vacation home' there is - a really nice 30' camper, not too big to tow, with 3 full bed rooms and the slide out den/sitting room. Fully insure it, find a nice safe state park, hook it up and go every weekend. Bigger than a cabin and it can move if bad things come that way. Some friends had an even bigger one in Destin at what used to be the Holiday Inn Trav-L-Park. Right on the beach - they even had a deck. They used to move it to Dothan for the hurricanes. Wonder where they are now.

I live about 20 miles from the State Park that was mentioned..I was thinking "this is a wonderful thing they are doing"!!!!!! - just keep your eyes open and your doors locked - should be doing that anyway since the last days approach quickly. Yesterday (Thank God that's the last time I have to go back there!) they were putting a fence around the camping area WITH RAZOR WIRE! I wondered if the razor wire was going to be to the inside (to keep the inmates, I'm sorry, refugees, in) or the outside (to keep the deer sfafely on the outside).

"There goes the neighborhood?" - it used to be a really nice place, people came from all over. A big draw in winter was the bald eagles - it was not uncommon to see folks from Ontario to California staying there for extended periods. Even the old fart that was 'going to make a stand' was gone yesterday.

I hope your family never suffers as these people have!!!! - we did, dear - it was called Ivan. We had a nice non-wheeled 'vacation home' on lagoon drive in PCB and there was nothing just left, not even the little stobs sticking out of the ground. Nothing but dirty sand. We were behind Hamilton's resturant and Captain Andersons and so many morfe that I could mention. We took the payoff and bought something that could move.

OOps - gotta go to work right now.

I was thinking the same thing. Ivan did not hit PCB. There were many tornadoes that affected the area.

AB, I think you sound upset with the state of AL. Your remarks are still not justified. My head is still pounding to hard, and I don't care to go into details. I will point out one thing. You stated earlier that you lost everything and you were upset that these people were receiving money to get them back on their feet. Now you tell us that you took the cash and ran from Ivan. "Ivan" did not take all of your neighbors and friends away, leaving your city in total ruin for an unknown period of time. Your minor frustration is so trivial in comparison. You sound like a little child that did not get the toy he wanted. :banging:

On break...this thread is too addictive to wait until after work

Don't worry folks, it's still me, names don't really matter. We all have more sides than the funny or happy one. Just disallusionment (sp?) and stress letting the hard-hearted part of me show a little bit. Probably the same thing you would do if it suddenly came to your front door, and it yet may from all the media predictions! Who knows, all I know is that I'm so tired I could just close my eyes and sleep right here. Ponds are looking better but fish aren't. I think the last days are with us and I hope we don't all suffer too badly.

Gotta go back to the salt mines...later

Lunch -

I sincerely apologize to all and have realized for years that I am a thickhead confederate and closet bigot and perhaps even a little bit racist. Absolutely not trying to sell any opinion just sharing my pain and shock at polo-tics alabama style. Anyway the sun is out, work calls and the beach beckons for this weekend since the camper is now in use as refuge (REF-yooj!). The red hills of mizippi will be here tomorrow and so will I. I wonder if there's beach access anywhere in Biloxi (Sp?). I really do need to learn these mizippi names.

I say let's tie a can to it and get back to normal.

Be good or be good at it! See yall tomorrow for another round!

I forgive him, but will not post on this subject again! He's oblivious, so why continue to frustrate myself!

Hey AB: no apologies necessary for being yourself, and being honest about your feelings. making the above confession lets me know that you are really a good person having a bad week... everyone has a dark side to their beautiful selves. your confession, while I think it is mostly BS, describes a lot of people I know - I was raised in Bham, Alabama. They are really great people who may seem to be huge bigots from time to time, they have great potential to be otherwise. Only the brilliant ones would ever see inside themselves enough to confess such. This is the case for people all over the world I would guess... :D

I agree with Tootsie, at least I know your perspective, even if I don't approve of it. I grew up in a racist town, with the KKK as well as black people boycotting stores. It was a little crazy. Many of the people whom I called my friends, were bigots and racists. They got that from their parents. My siblings and I cut those strings, and I saw my parents change with time. Today, I still see racism, even right here in SoWal. There are many cases. Sometimes, I find someone whom I really like, then I hear them talking about race issues, and find that we have such different views. I don't beat them up, but I know that my way is much different from there way. I miss my black friends, and hate that they feel so uncomfortable coming here to visit me and the place I love. Too many times, other people get in the way of enjoying this place. If you are a racist, you will never be my friend, until you change your ways. I don't use the term, "friend" lightly. A friend carries great weight. I will still respect your opinions on other issues, but I will always be challenging you to understand my perspective on racial issues.

I am glad you are not hiding behind a mask.

Did you read the about the woman 'evacuee' that spent $800 of the $2000 debit card on a designer handbag in atlanta? holy crap! They should have just made it a walmart credit....food, gas, clothes, school supplies, everything you need to survive...oh, and rent. I start to feel so horrible for everyone involved and some dumb*ss does this. it's going to get worse. My sons school now has 85 extra kids. the classes were too big to begin with! These kids need to learn (evacuees included) and with so many in one classroom, its going to be a nightmare. no one will be able to pay attention.
