South Beach that is. Miss Kitty mentioned she was starting again. Anyone else? It's been a year or so since I've dieted and I forget a lot of the recipes. I need to lose at least 10 lbs and my goal is 16. I made this cute little ticker chart and I'm testing it to see if it works here. I'm starting at Phase One and I'm getting ready to go the grocery. We can do this together to stay motivated and share recipes!

I am with you. Great eating habits..I was soooo bad during December so I need to get back on the wagon. I do feel so much better once I detox and eat healthy. Love to share ideas and recipes. What exactly is this chart??

I can't figure out how to put it in my signature. I've seen them on other boards. You can even make one to count down days to your vacation. www.tickerfactory.com

Great! Glad we can do this together!

Well, I'm not into South Beach, but I'll do what I can for moral support. I follow a low fat, high fiber regimen and prefer to think of it as a lifestyle change more than a diet. I don't count calories, just try to keep my fat grams below 30 and my fiber grams above 30. I have been doing this since the beginning of November and lost 35 pounds so far (the holidays were tough, but when I cheated a little, I added an extra workout to compensate.)

Thanks - I've been keeping it quiet as to not jinx myself!

My sister-in-law is doing Weight Watchers and likes it. If you have a friend to go there with you, all the better. Hope it works well for you!

Thank you thank you thank you for posting this! I am so depressed at my post-holiday figure. I stepped on the scale this morning and almost fainted. I've never weighed this much before except when I was pregnant. :( (Now that's bad; very bad.) Too much wining and dining over the holidays!

I am going to use WW because that's what Merman did when he started piling on the Executive Dinner pounds, and it worked great for him. I put today's weight  on the calendar and on next Wednesday's date, that weight minus 2 pounds, and on the next Wednesday after that, today's weight minus 4 pounds, and so so forth and so on. And a slash right next to it so when the day comes up I can compare.

Wed Jan 4
200 lb / __ lb

Wed Jan 11
198 lb / __ lb

Wed Jan 18
196 lb / __ lb

Hopefully when I fill in the blanks each week, target weight will match actual weight.

Hopefully we can all encourage each other! I HATE dieting.

Linda, congratulations! That is really impressive. Tell me more--how do you measure the fiber, for example? Meaning, are you just reading food labels, or what?

I'm game. I need to lose 10 lbs. But I do better with a diet that tells you what to eat and when. (Day 1: 5 boiled eggs, etc.) Other words, take my free will away.

Yep, that is why south beach worked for me...not many options. My daughter lost 10 pounds on WW and loved it. WW offers a great variety, but you have to have willpower. I do better with a strict regime. The most important thing is to find a diet that will work for you. It needs to be something you can consider a lifestyle change...not a diet.

Me too, Dbuck. I'd rather you just say "No, you cannot have that". From July to present date I have gained 20 pounds after getting off my low-carb diet

That is just shameful. It just goes to show you how fast it can come back. Please everybody remember this.... :bang:

Thanks so much - yes, reading food labels for the most part. Breakfast & lunch are easy - for breakfast I just have high fiber cereal (raisin bran, mini-wheats and wheat chex are my favorites) with skim milk and some kind of fruit. For lunch I've been eating a lot of canned soup (not a good option if you need to be concerned with sodium, but that's not an issue for me.) I find that split pea, black bean, and beef barley have high fiber contents; if you fix the whole can it's considered 2 servings but for the most part it's still less than 400 calories, very filling and up to 10 grams of fiber. I snack on lots of fruits, raw vegetables, and yogurt, also prepared hummus and whole wheat pita bread. Dinner is the toughest meal - I've been feeding my kids first and then try to take time to fix myself a good, healthy meal. This is a good time to go a little heavy on the protein and lighter on the carbs - I have an indoor grill so I eat a lot of chicken breast (been using a jerk marinade and also another one that's sesame ginger flavor.) My life saver some evenings are bags of whole frozen cooked shrimp - sometimes if I can't manage to cook I just fix shrimp cocktail and eat some vegetables and cottage cheese with it. So far, so good - I used to eat like this before I had kids and the last few years I've been making excuses to eat too much fast food. I still indulge occasionally - we have this chain here called Culver's and I can order the kids chicken strips with mashed potatoes and gravy for only 12 fat grams. Eating out in general can be a challenge but not impossible - a petite filet and baked potato with a little sour cream works well as does most grilled fish or chicken breast.

I know so many people are afraid of carbs, but if you make sure you are choosing as many complex carbs as possible, they are a good choice (whole grain breads, brown rice and the new whole grain pastas. I really like the Barilla Plus pasta - they don't taste grainy like some others I've tried.)

I agree. I'll probably do the beach for 2 weeks then after that just watch the carbs. I am so addicted to carbs it's not funny. I need to rid myself of the sugar and carb cravings. Last year when I started SB I lost 8 lbs. the first week and then a few after that and kept if off for several months.
I hope to stick with it a little longer this time!

:clap_1: This is great...not everyday we can get excited about dieting!

That's the rub. Getting rid of the cravings for carbs and sugar. I practically have to nix them completely or I never even get started on slimming down. If I get the taste in my mouth for sweets...watch out.
